My doctor laughed and told me that i would be fine. It's one of the few foods that dont make me sick to my stomach just by the smell... Lol i don't eat it much but dont worry about it you will be fine just don't eat old meat! And dont let people think your a bad person because it "could potentially hurt your baby" i know there are a lot of judgmental people on this site....

The only reason why they tell pregnant women specifically not to eat it is because our immune systems are much lower during pregnancy which increases the risk of being infected.
My wic provider said no lunch meat... My doctor AND dietician (because gestational diabetes) said it's fine! I even got a turkey sandwich when I stayed in the hospital for three days! Lol
I eat sandwiches. Smoked ham. Or honey ham. But don't eat it all the time. Or il have a lunchable that have ham or turkey in it. This my second pregnancy. And I ate it with my first too just not the lunchables lol and she was perfectly healthy.
Thanks ladies! I barely eat it, maybe 2times a month, if that. But I think about it a lot lol. My bf doesn't like me eating it, even says something when I eat tuna. He made me try a Cuban sub, which is heated and delicious!! So I am going to eat that mainly, but still need my salami sometimes lol
I eat it alllll the time and have with all of my pregnancies I have perfectly healthy kids and I think it is a bit ridiculous too! I have never heard of getting listeria either but obviously it has happened so idk
My doctor said "how many times have you gotten listeria from eating subway?" ...she basically was saying be smart. Don't eat old meat..Etc. She also comforted me by saying that if it happened and you did get sick...it doesn't affect your baby, just ***** being sick and pregnant. So the only precautions I've been taking is just buying the deli sliced lunch meat because it's fresher :)
BTW I'm 10w5d
I asked my doctor and she rolled her eyes lol.. id say if it looks and smells alright ur fine just dont eat it every day.. i still have cold turkey sandwiches from time to time
It's not bad at all, unless you ingest the bacteria called listeria that can be found on lunch meat and soft cheeses but it can be killed if heated up. Your choice to take the chances. I eat soft cheese all the time.
Listeria is what they are afraid of and you may not get sick but make your baby sick. Your choice I guess.
