metformin 850 mg tablets

okay guys,,i know its been a while since i have been on here,.
those of yall who do not know my situation ill update you,

me and my husband got pregnant,
i was 8 weeks and we had a m/c on
March 22,2010. i had my D&C March 24,2010.

well i had my normal period in april
then in may it was late, in june i was on it for
13 days and july i was late again,
now were in august and i had my normal period finally,
so that must mean that i am obviously ovulation the way im supposed to??right??

well we have been trying to get preggers again so i went to go see my obgyn and he gives me these pills called metformin 850 mg tablets,,he tells me i will get pregnant within the next 3 months,,i have not takin them because i have been doing research and im reading things like dont take if your pregnant or plan to become pregnant,.and these pills are usually giving to ppl with diabetes or with pcos,,which i have none of those,.so my question is should i take them,,and has anyone else here takin them,,and what was your outcome,.??

thankyou ladies!

You should not take Metformin (also called Glucophage) if you do not have a diagnosis. I would switch doctors immediately. That is some lazy doctoring right there. Metformin won't increase your chances of conceiving- it deals with your blood sugars and hormones.

Yes JoyRenee i understand what they are used for i am a diabetic that is tryin to concieve i waqs told by the doc and did my own research that they promote uterine health and see as i had irregular cycles like got a period once every 3 to 6mths no ovulation i have been on them for 3mths now have had to regular cycles and just mc 2wks ago and honestly for me they wrked now i cnt say y they prescribed them for u nayce45 without having ay of the abve problems but i take 2000mg of metfromin a day i do agree with JoyRenee about doc and maybe changing to a more natural approach because along with my metformin after my mc i decided to change some thing in my diet so im hopin tht i cn get my BFP in sept so good luck i  hope everything works out

Well you did just have a miscarriage and it can take time for your body to adjust and heal so I would just give it some time. Taking Metformin won't increase your chances of conceiving and it won't prevent another miscarriage. I would just keep doing what you're doing, stay healthy and have fun with the husband!

Nayce- I think doctors want to pacify their patients and they also get a sort of commission when you purchase prescriptions under their name. So he may just be a really prescription-happy doctor. Sad, but sadly true. I would find a second opinion. If you do not have fertility problems I wouldn't take anything because conceiving naturally is the best thing you can do if you are able.

Instead you could focus on some more natural approaches, like ditching caffeine and drinking only water and natural fruit juices, eating more raw foods (not meats, of course, but fruits and vegetables), whole grains, tree nuts, avocados, etc.

Tresa- you are mistaken. They do not boost or increase fertility nor do they promote uterine health. It is a diabetic drug and it also helps symptoms of PCOS (I have PCOS and have taken Metformin; no longer taking it because I am breastfeeding). The symptoms of PCOS are caused by hormonal imbalance. So unless the original poster has a hormonal issue there is no reason she should take a Class C drug while trying to conceive.

Hello i am currently takin metformin and they do increase your chances of concieving bc they promote uterine health and fertility yes they are for diabetics and women who suffer from PCOS and when u do become pregnant u will have to discontinue the drug but i do knw many women who have concieved while on this medication i had irregular cycles but since being on this med they have regulated and im hopin to get my BFP soon but im am not sure y he prescribed them if you dnt have the above problems so good luck and i hope everything works out for you.
