mommies, mamas, moms..... =) (everyone who has kids)

Hello Ladies, I just wanted to ask a GROUP of women....

Where are your kids toys located, and where do they normally play.... im talking little ones, 1-5 yrs old.....

The place we like/approved for has a HUGE kitchen, bUT downside is that the living room is basically a doorway into it, like a bedroom.... which is weird, but i was wondering if its doable? Im having a hard time picturing where my kids will be playing and whatnot. I mean their bedroom has the room for toys/play kitchen.... But the whole day ill prolly be spending it downstairs and i dont want my kids to be out of site..... I want to keep an eye on my little troublemakers   :o) .................... Also what ***** is there is no "back door" to the back yard, we'll end up going thru the front to get to the back......

Honestly girls i need opinions and thoughts. Thank YOU!!!!

Where do your kids spend there play time......

Sunkissed19- I agree,,, ive been looking at house rentals for about a year or so... every place we look at either has this wrong or that wrong. And i think i have to just put a couple of flaws aside and just get used to it is all..... Nothing is ever ideal and never will be i think ill be able to pick apart a perfect house too. lol. we are women i guess.

I think itll work, i believe itll take getting used to but its doable, most importantly its CLEAN very clean, No pets no smoking no shoes inside.... which is hard to come by...

IVY- ive been loooooooking for you...SIGN ON.

Julie- My son is only 7 months but he still plays with toys....he has a toy bin in between the living and dining rooms....we have a big open great room with various archways but we also go play in his room sometimes too because i want both to be comfortable for him. Obviously right now i never leave him alone to play though lol. but when he's older i think playing in his room by himself is just fine (even tho his room is way down another hallway) BUT, i will use a baby monitor and check on him frequently. I think ur set up sounds like you could make it work if you really love the house....but if your going to be uncomfortable that would be something stopping me from getting the house. For instance the house we were looking at before we got this one (Matthew was a week old) the play room (loft type deal) and the extra bedrooms were upstairs...the master downstairs...i was like no, i cant do that. i didnt want to be going up and down stairs while he was still waking for feedings so i turned down the house. BUT now, that ive lived seven months with him...that would have been a fine situation. I think u can make any situation work it just all takes some getting used to!

its OK Julia I don't let my kids play outside by themselves either, even though I have enough windows facing the yard....our house is on property split with another home so we're several hundred yards behind the little road that our driveway is off of, which is several hundred feet away from the main road...and there's about 1/4 mile of thick woods AND a fence between our yard and the big main road, but I will never feel comfortable with my kids playing outside without supervision...I think it's totally normal to feel that way. even though we live in the country and a neighborhood full of kids and families, it's just not something I'm ever going to get over lol.

do you have enough space in the living area to set up a play nook? that's essentially what we've done and it keeps the mess very easily contained..no more than 10 minutes of "picking up" before bedtime and the living room is completely toy free each day....I think if you keep on top of toys and messes you don't have to worry about kid stuff ruining the clean, adult feeling of a living room. :-). We also put a little book shelf in the living room and the bottom shelf is all books for my daughter and son...it's part of what separates the play nook.

Lol. Sorry I forget that I live in a small town. And I'd only let our kids play outside alone if we had a fence which we don't.

It sounds like you have it figured out pretty well. And once you've moved you can always change things up.

my daughter is only 2 yr and 7 month.... I would never let her play outside be herself.... i dont think this city is safe enough... its not the worst but this isnt in the boonies/hills either. Id allow her if i lived a mile away from next door nieghbor... lol. It seems like it just might work... I know in my kitchen ill put out a large rug and ill have a play kitchen/toy box there for her.... its a comfortable kitchen very large, so i guess the living room will prolly be for relaxation and books, ill have a little table/chairs set up for her there..... This is helping me a lot ladies!!! honestly!!! thank you for taking the time! :)))))

any more to give me ideas :o)

How olds your daughter? I usually don't pay much attention to what the girls are doing unless crying coming into play. They are very good on their own and their isn't much they can get into in their room.

Can u hear her room from the downstairs? How old is she? As for the going around to the back its not ideal but aleast you'll know when she goes outside. And is their a window incase? Or maybe a wall where a new door could be put if ur buying.

Um first time around I had three, three and under and they played in thier rooms, which were upstairss through a pocket door, so that was when I was up stairs.

Then everyday I would let them bring a toy or two down to play with where I was, They took it up and out it away everyday but the ride on toys stayed along the wall or in the corners and each day I had them try to bring something differnent so they would not get bored. I also suggest that if you have lots of toys you have just one shelf for them then box up the rest and put in a closet if possible and switch them all out differnent times through the winter as kids get restless with no outside time! Same for books! My 6 month old has a basket in the living room, we have a family room but don't use it much, but I also have a self in the kitchen in front of our bay window and soon will get a rug for him to play on there when I clean and cook.

I do agree that kids need to be in eye site, once you relieze you hear nothing in the other room the disaster is already done or half way at least!

Mine little ones rarely played in their bedrooms, mostly in the kitchen with magnets, pots and pans from the bottom drawer that they were allowed to drage out, LoL, and in the living room where the TV is.  Once they reach about 6, they started playing more in their rooms, and my 16 m/o likes to play in his brothers' bedroom, as long as they are in there, too.

we have a huge living space, so my kids' toys are split between the bedroom and the great room...we have a chest of toys in the living area that I can close up when we have grown-ups over. it works for us. I've never been super-formal and although I really like my house to look nice and neat, I'm not fooling anyone that I don't have 2 small children so I don't mind their little messes in the living room...we clean up toys right before bed every night so it's never out of control. my daughter splits her time between the nursery and the living room for play, but I don't like her playing out of my sight for more than a few minutes so I actually prefer the great room/foyer/kitchen to be where they do most of their playing. the toy chest is in the corner of the room and very unobtrusive when closed. big toys (riding carts, wagons, etc) go in the bedroom though.

Living room, bedroom or outside. I don't mind my daughter playing in her room by herself if I can hear her and our living room is open so I can see her when she is out there. Our backyard has a sliding glass door so ill let her go outside (she can't open the door by herself" but 1/2 the time I'll sit inside and watch her from the kitchen table and leave the door cracked so she can come in and out to grab more toys.

Our usually play in their bedroom. But our home is teeny tiny and their room is just off the living room. And we do that so if their rooms a mess any guest won't see it! Lol.
