But I wanted to know what is a good, inexpensive nipple cream?

Hopefully they'll give you some at the hospital. Since I was Breastfeeding the hospital gave me nipple cream for the crackness and.  And they gave me some to take home.

All nipple cream has lanolin in it, all the ones I've seen at least, I heard Medela is supposed to be awesome! I'm going to get that

No just for nipples its like a gooey type gel.. so ur nipples no crack.. ive already put it on mines n it feels great.

Just because of what it does for your nips?

The one I got you can put on when ur done feeding and its fine for the baby. I heard squeezing out a little milk and rubbing that on the nipple can also help.

I think the one I got was lanolin...I heard good things about it and only paid about $9 for it at babiesrus.

I picked up Boob*ease from Babies R Us...buy one get one half off. One jar is about $15, but it lasts. Im sure there are others out there, but I have read good stuff on the product with great reviews.
