Midwife or OB/GYN?

I honestly have no idea what the difference is? I saw a post about seeing one for a natural delivery but you can do that with OB/GYN because I did it with my first and will again with my second. So basically what's the midwives role in a pregnancy and delivery?

That sounds really amazing. I didn't look much into them before with my first. I was just so worried about my health because I just almost died from TSS 3 months before and was advised not to get pregnant and I only have 1 kidney. And this time I just automatically went back to the same dr because he kept such a great eye on all my complications I felt great with how he handled my first.

A midwife does more in-depth Appointments and stays with you longer during delivery. With a doctor my first appointment they measured baby and listened for heart beat with doplar.  With a midwife they give you a full exam top to bottom. When Dr delivered my baby the nurse started ever thing and checked on me till time to deliver, then Dr rushed in to catch baby and see if I needed to be stitched which I did not then he left. When midwife delivered my baby she was there to get me settled in then came in every 30 minutes to an hour, if I called for a nurse my midwife came in and checked on me and get me what I need. If you have a Dr and need help breastfeeding they call a lactation consultant, if you have a midwife she can normally help you get started right after delivery. I always liked a midwife more than a Dr because I feel I got better care.     Also just so you will know a midwife is not all about natural no meds pregnancy and labor, they treat the whole you on the other hand a Dr treats the pregnancy. My midwifes have always been about making me comfortable and made sure I got medication for nausea, pain meds for my kidney stones and did not mind inducing me and talked me out of a natural birth because of the pain from pitocin was not doing well with baby, she said it was best to get an epidural because baby's heart rate was dropping. Midwifes are great and I would recommend them to anyone.

See I had a natural delivery with my first and I just figured you have a choice. My OB/GYN asked what I wanted to do before delivery and I told him no meds and he said ok and I told the nurses at the time of delivery no meds and one looked and said some dumb stuff and we got her switched out real quick lol

I switched to a midwife this time around. I feel more informed and helped and like what I want for my labor is heard. At my ob although they allowed natural birth they thought me doing different positions was weird and it was always a rushed appt. I really want things my way and I feel like with my midwife they are.

Im in the UK and midwifes here deal with your whole pregnancy from your first appointment, scans, delivery etc until your home visits after baby is born x

I'm not too sure, but my cousin had a midwife.
They pretty much do the same as an Ob/gyn she said, they do focus more on natural births w/o meds, breathing techniques, and natural herbs etc to ease symptoms throughout pregnancy.
