packing bag for extended hospital stay

I was told yesterday by one of my specialists that it's possible at some point I could end up being hospitalized for awhile, and I need to be ready to admit myself at a moment's notice. It's not definite I'll go at all, but he said I need to pre-register for the hospital ASAP and get a bag packed in case I need it.  I asked him how long I would have to stay, and he said as long as I needed to. I'm almost 24 weeks so it could potentially be for awhile.

I've never even been admitted to the hospital as a day patient, much less for an extended stay like that...wonder if any of you have suggestions on some of the things I might want to take with me?

I hope so, too, I think it'd drive me crazy...I'm going to the hospital tomorrow, so I'll make sure to ask, that's a good idea. They're worried about my asthma, it could be fine but it could also get bad, and there's no way to know. He says if it flares up and I take my meds and it's still not behaving, I should head to the hospital and it's likely they'd keep me there for awhile. :(

I hope this will be a precautionary measure only and that you won't be admitted!

You might want to check if they have internet, DVD players, etc when you pre-register so you know what distractions might be appropriate. For example, I was surprised last time I was in hospital, they had no cable or internet in the rooms but DVD players in each room.

I would also suggest your own pillow since I didn't find the hospital ones very comfy.

Yes a big bag!! Lol. I've done a few extended stays not only for myself but my boys.  Socks will keep your feet warm and snacks are good when you can't get food and no one can get it for you. Also your favorite beverages!

I had been wondering about shampoo, etc., and snacks hadn't occurred to me either. Might need a big bag lol.

A good book snacks hospital food ***** I would recommend several pairs of underwear and comfy pajama bottoms tops or robes probably won't be necessary if you have an iv you probably won't really be able to wear them. Slippers in case you are able to get up and walk around some hair tyes and stuff. If you listen to nothing else I say take your own shampoo conditioner deoderant and bodywash the stuff the have at the hospital is awful and almost pointless. Good luck!

Socks!! Lots of socks. Slippers are good too. Also lounge pants, sweaters, basically comfy clothes, laptop, dvds, books, whatever can keep you entertained, brush, deodrant, home comforts, snacks you like, address book to get in contact with someone if you need it..... Does that help? LOL
