Congrats:) Finally lol how exciting you have a girl now a boy how perfect ! Goodluck with your delivery :}
Well Clysta....look up Berkshire Medical Center in berkshire County Mass...they are ranked the BEST in the top 5 % so evidentially where im going is the best lol....Ranked in the top 5 % is pretty d*mn impressive i must say...
A lot of doctors use it but it still has bad side effects and there are other options. I highly recommend watching the documentary pregnant in America, you can find it on netflix.
Your doctors and hospitals are the strangest I've ever seen - and frightening as well. Full term as 36 weeks, all doing a stretch and sweep at 37 weeks.... They don't seem to follow any medically recommended guidelines and that alone raises multiple red flags.
the doctors use it when they feel it is needed....they dont give it to you if you ask them lol. they used it when i was pregnant for my daughter bc at 40wks and 2 days my cervix was high and long and closed completely. so they needed to use it.
Make sure u ladies really look up cytotec (aka misoprostol) its very dangerous n can have bad side effects!!!
My doctors dont use membrane sweeps as "inductions" they use pitocine as induction....all the hospitals in my county do membrane sweeps starting at 37wks bc its not 100%
when they use Pitocine, they also use Cytotec to force the cervix open.
idk, all i know is that it hardly works for anyone unless theyre opened enough.
my friend had 2 membrane sweeps and nothing happened...she ended up getting a c-section bc she ended up being past her due date.
but. idk. regardless, something may or may not happen XD
Neither does Pitocen, it doesn't mean it's not induction. I was just asking because before you were very adamant you weren't being induced early and you are and it's confusing.
i totally thought id fail! lol i heard its sooo common to fail so i got worried!
Clysta, it doesnt always start labor :P if it does, thatd be cool! lol. this child is HUGE lol last week the doctor said "your baby is about 7lbs already" based on my ultrasound and her feelings him in my belly (im all baby)
and Excitedmama-you could ask....if you have to be dilated enough to make it effective...im 3cm dilated....i think if your like...2cm it generally helps? but defintely ask! you can tell your doctor that you want to give your body a chance after a membrane sweep :)
its not 100% effective...BUT, theres a good chance of it starting labor :)
This may be a dumb question but i have a dr appointment on wednesday. We are being induced on monday. Should i ask about her doing a membrane sweep on wednesday? Idk how this all works.
Yeah, the doctor moves the membranes from around the baby from the cervix - this is done to kick start labour due to the hormones produced when its done.
It's one of the most natural methods of induction.
Clysta, a stretch and sweep at my hospital is just the removal of membranes using the fingers and just using the fingers to try and open the cervix a bit more. Completely different from induction :p
I thought she wasn't inducing until you were 39 weeks? (Which is what a stretch and sweep is)
Awe...congrats!! I'll be praying for this weekend for you;-)
good luck and hope your lil bundle of joy arrives ASAP!
Maybe labor this weekend! My body is hurting sooooooooo much!!!!!!
