for uk mamas or usa mamas if they know the milk

My daughter will be 4 weeks old on Friday and she is a very hungry baby.  She was on normal SMA the yellow one. She was feeding every 2 hours and inbetween 3-4 oz a time. Now she's on  the blue hungry baby SMA. But she still is going every 2 hours in the day and can drink anything from 1oz to the full 5 oz.  I think it's to much milk for her age. I'm wondering if putting her on cow and gates comfort will be better for her. She was 8 lb 5 oz born and hasn't lost any weight. She was 10lb 8 oz last Thursday so she's putting it on fast.  Just worried I'm over feeding her :/

For the the record I didn't mean to offend anyone. I just get nervous because ive seen some people who have given full bottles of water throughout the day because they thought their baby was getting enough formula, and ended up malnourished. An oz every now and then won't hurt, just don't decrease the amount of formula or milk because those calories are important, not just for weight but for brain development. Baby should still be getting enough to gain about an oz a day.

A ounce of water sounds great(: & not harmful at all . I'd probably give her a few gas drops after though, just so she won't be cranky. Lol! Ahh I love babies & can't wait to have mine.

I'm sorry but I disagree with not giving water as my doctor is the one who told me to give her an oz inbetween feeds. Not much just enough to hydrate her. When i was a baby I was given water. Certain doctors and midwives these days don't know what their talking about. Most of them would of given their children water and not a young age. They just tell u don't do it cuz they have it.

My doc told me to give water because he was getting enough milk , and he was over eating cause he was getting hydrated , every baby is different and so is every doc . So you talk to YOUR doc bout for YOUR baby

I agree with knufrio. My pediatrician told me not to give my newborn water right now. I suggest you speak with a Dr.

I am a PEDs nurse, I have a degree, a license, and I do this for a living. Unless they have vomiting or diarrhea and cannot take milk, babies should never get water. They need the fats and calories from the formula or breast milk, water offers ZERO benefit to babies.

Never give babies water under 6 months old? Who said that?lol . Its people giving babies REAL SOLID FOOD WITHOUT TEETH BEFORE 6 MONTHS. So if you think water could harm the baby then take a second thought. As long as it's purified with antioxidants she will be fine.

Every child is different. If the doctor isn't worried you shouldn't be worried. She is not that old and growth spurts occur at different times for every child. Not to mention the first few months to a year they grow the most. She will balance out eventually. If you are really worried talk to the pediatrician. Good luck

Lol, idk what to say . . . Maybe just still try to give her the water . She needs it! You may think like oh well she's getting water through the milk, well she still could get dehydrated . Just do whatever's best for her tho'. . .

Never ever give babies water! They need the calories. If she's suddenly taking more it could just be a growth spurt. There is never a need to give babies under 6 months old water

I add that same issue , my doc told me to add a little bit of apple juice just enough to give it flavor , apple juice won't harm her . They had me giving my son apple juice when he was constipated

We don't have that milk here where i'm from which is the USA. But, the weight gain doesn't sound that bad. Just don't overfeed & give him/her water in between time
