petrified

I could really use some encouraging words of reassurance. When I first found out about my pregnancy, I started getting worried about the WORST things that could go wrong. It went on for about a month and a half. During the cramping stage I would think of my period and would be scared to use the bathroom with thoughts of seeing blood. So I'm almost 13 weeks and the thoughts are back. I'm so frightened that something will go wrong like miscarriage or stillbirth. This is the absolute worst feeling.

Chelsea,  I think you'll see that other moms all worry too. It's natural,  a mom who didn't worry would have to be unaware of the risks.  Everyone worries.

But I sense your worry is kind of debilitating and that you're having obsessive fears that are affecting your day to day functioning.

There are methods to handle obsessive fears.  First,  don't think about it.  Literally,  learn to retrain your brain.   Plan ahead for what you're going to think about when a fear first pops into your head.  Exactly what you're going to fix for dinner,    where you'd love to travel,  some upcoming event that you're looking forward to,  etc.  Plan ahead what thought you will go to.  When the fear comes,  STOP THINKING THAT,  and switch to your other thought topic.  It takes some practice but it works.

The night after I find out, I could hardly sleep because I was thinking about the worst case-cenarios. Even now, my morning sickness feels like preperiod sickness. Everytime I go to the bathroom I check and it is super scary. You just have to remember that God is in charge and if He brings you to that challenge, He will bring you through it too. But dont worry too much, stress can be harmful to your sweet baby.

I'm 39+4 and I still get scared. If she moves a little slower or not for a while I worry. I have fetal heart monitor so I check her all the time. I've also give into labor and delivery once when I want feeling her. She's fine everytime.
