Thank you all for the replies.
My dr. just had me start a new series of hormones to try and help ttc. Here is what they're putting me on:
CD 3-7: Clomid
CD 8-12: Estradiol
IUI 24 hours post pos OPK
Progesterone (Crinone) 3dpo and until 12 weeks of pregnancy or when AF comes.
I've just started the estradiol phase so I don't have any information on how this series works but maybe somebody out there has done it... I hope it can help you.
If I were you I would wait the 3-4 days just to make sure ovulation occurred. Your RE knows what they are talking about and has probably dealt with this more than your OB. Don't worry though... this is easily corrected and you can fix it next cycle!
I have been charting bbt and using opks for over a year. Every cycle except for one, I ovulated on cd17. The one exception was on cd16. So if I indeed did ovulate this month as indicated by bbt and +opk, then technically would it be okay to start prometrium in 1dpo???
I do not but you may want to try to post this in the Fertility Forum:

Usually Prometrium is taken beginning 3-4dpo. The reason being is to ensure that ovulation actually has taken place, and the most reliable way to know is to chart at least three days of consecutive elevated BBTs. Just think, if in fact that high temperature was due to a fever, a sleep disturbance or whatever and not ovulation, having increased levels of progesterone would keep you from ovulating. I believe your RE is only taking precautions.
