preterm labor

I am 22 weeks and just had an ultrasound to determine the sex while finding out I am being blessed with a baby boy I also received the news that I have a very short cervix that is 80% thinned they are expecting preterm labor or have a miscarriage I may have to go in for steroids for lung development does that hurt and has anyone had this problem and had a successful birth how probable is it that my baby will live

My sister had a weak cervix. She held my niece in for 10 more days once at the hospital. Kirah was born 17 wks early at 1lb 3oz. 20% chance she would live. 50% chance she would have mental issues. She had heart surgery at 3 days. On steroids for her lungs. My sweet niece will be 9 in April. And she has no issues. A friend had similar issue. Hospital wouldn't take her til she hit 20 wks. She made it to 20. She had a lot of issues and so did her son. It was touch and go. But everything worked out just fine :) I wish you a healthy baby as well.

My sister had this problem too. She found out about the thinning cervix at 20 weeks and was put on strict home bed rest.  Only allowed to shower and go to the bathroom. No making meals or anything. She wasnt good with following it and She was admitted to the hospital at 24 weeks and spent 9 weeks there. She was 2 cms dialated at 24 weeks.   She was given several steriod injections and had to have ultrasounds 3 times a day.  She was released from the hospital at 33 weeks or so when they were sure the baby was big enough and was told she probably wouldnt make it the hour car ride home before going into labour.  She made it 3 weeks longer on bed rest at home and had a healthy 7 pd baby. The good thing is that they caught it and they can moniter you more carefully.  Hope everything works out for you.
