Sorry,  that last post was confusing.

I don't think there's anything you can do to make cheap hot dogs healthy,  although one a week or so certainly won't harm your baby.  They're just loaded with stuff you shouldn't eat,  but cooking them doesn't solve that.

If you crave hot dogs and want to eat healthy,  buy the raw turkey dogs and cook them.

Lilly - there are raw hot dogs that are sold in the grocery stores.  They cost about 3 times as much as cooked ones, and they are actually healthy for you.  You do have to cook them, though,  it's like buying raw turkey.

The problem with processed cooked hot dogs isn't bacteria,  as I understand it,  but the fact that it's loaded with nitrates and garbage.

Cooking them, or heating them up doesn't solve that problem.  You just would get warm chemicals and rat hairs instead of cold chemicals and rat hairs.

Sorry to be so gross.  ;D

Im 31 weeks and have eaten raw hot dogs A LOT and me and baby are fine. I think raw hot dogs taste better than heated up hot dogs.

Obviously..... she means "raw" as in not heated up... bioled... microwaved... grilled whatever to kill any germs. They just say that eating it before heating it up can potentially introduce bad things into your body that can harm baby. They just want you to heat it up. I think it's ridiculous but I don't like hot dogs anyways so whatever lol

It's unlikely the hot dog was raw.

Most hot dogs you buy in the grocery store say "fully cooked" on the package.

The problem of eating. raw meat is the risk of contracting toxoplasmosis.  Not that usual, though.

A hotdog will not cause a miscarriage. They didn't come out with this "you shouldn't eat lunch meat that isn't heated up" until a couple years ago. Women had been eating stuff like that forever. I asked my doctor about the seriousness of it because I LOVE LOVE subway, and he pretty much told me that I can eat all I wanted. Just to be sure I didn't eat lunch meat that had been sitting out for a long time. I think your friend is fine. Tell her not to worry.
