arianas first fall - experiences?

well the day finally came... ariana took her first fall today. she fell off the changing table, which stands at my hips and is about 3 feet up. i have no idea how it happened. she has a pad up there with a buckle. the pad is about the length of her whole body, and the buckle goes right across the middle. shes never squirmed completely out of the buckle, it's always across her feet or chest even if she squirms all the way down.. i put her on her tummy cause she always wants to roll that way anyways and buckled her in, and when upstairs to make a bottle. i wasn't gone but 45 seconds and i heard her screaming and i ran down there and she was on the floor. she was on her back. i have no idea if she hit anything on the way down, or fell on her face and rolled onto her back, or fell directly onto her back. the pad was still in place on the table, so i know she didn't pull that down with her. she was pretty upset, obviously, but she was okay after she ate her bottle and got cuddled a good bit.
i called her pediatrician and spoke with a nurse. she told me to check for fluid coming out of her ears or nose, indentions in her head, vomiting, naping longer than a few hours, or acting abnormal. she also told me to wake her a few times tonight and make sure she is able to be woken up.
what are you ladies stories about your baby's first fall? how old were they? did anything go wrong?

aww thanks so much for the experiences -- that makes me feel a lot better. i think i was more upset than her! i think shes okay... of couse i was analyzing every little thing last night wondering if it was out of the ordinary for her. and i woke her up multiple times in the middle of the night (which resulted in mommy being very tired this morning) but all seems fine... thanks so much im glad to know it happened to you all too!!

MY kids have pretty much all fallen off the bed as infants at one point or another.  I also accidently dropped a camera on DD7's head when she was a few months old.  I know the signs of a concussion so I just watch them to make sure they don't have one.

I always try to stay calm in order to keep THEM calm.  Even when I want to scream "OH MY GOD" LOL.

I had Lily in her carseat hooked into the buggy at walmart...Gabe was in the basket part and he stood up, started to fall and grabbed her carseat for support, well the carseat on hooks to back of the seat part and it flipped her carseat backwards towards the basket but stayed hooked...scared the crap outta me and Gabe but Lily was fine.  She was just mad that her sleep had been disturbed but once I put her back upright and fixed her blanky she was fine.

I know how you feel so glad she is OK. Franky had one fall under my husband's watch he rolled off the couch, but didn't hurt himself and laughed when he hit the ground.... my hubby freaked out and even cried he felt so terrible (a little tear rolled out when he told me).  The other day I left the baby on his tummy on the floor in the middle of a big blanket away from everything.  I go upstairs for 1 minute to put his laundry basket away and he made his way all the way underneath the coffee table and his head was resting right on the corner of the leg (where it's a sharp corner) and he was screaming.  Looked like he scratched himself, but that is it.  He is fine now there was no bump, but I was so scared I called the doc too.  He is only 4 months old and doesn't quite crawl.  I am schocked he scooted that far.

Mine rolled off a couch. It was only about a foot or so off the ground though. She was sleeping on a pillow and I was standing next to the couch and she rolled off it and landed face down on the floor. Other than the initial shock of being woken up that way she was perfectly fine. I think it hurt me more than her. She was only like a month or so when it happened as well.

At least two of mine have fallen off the kitchen table--- in their car seats--- face first.  I have no idea how it's even possible for a small baby, strapped into a car seat can even MOVE it so it falls off of a table, but somehow they did.
Terrifying, but no injuries; I think mom is usually more upset than the baby. :(

OH no poor baby and mommy! Mine never did fall only my second and she was I guess 3. She tried to scale my corner cabinet and it fell on her. I htought she would be dead underneath but the door had opened and she just went right in the cabinet, ther was nothing in the bottom part. SHe got a bruise on her leg but was fine. I was hysterical!

She was my only climber and scaled the counter and fence and VAN!! by the time she was 2. I was always by her and wore her needless to say till she was almost 4 most of the time because of her climbing. I always made her get down herself in case she got somewhere I could not get fast enough and I stood below her to catch her, still scary thinking of it! My son had to get glue and stiches in his head but he was older and ran into a door frame.

My mom fell off the changing table at two weeks old on to a concrete floor! My Grandma still crys when she tells the story.

If they fall you hold your hand over thier eyes to make it dark and see if they react the same and just react to light when you take your hand off, and of course all the things the nurse said.

So sorry mommy! and glad she is OK!
