I did my 28 week blood work on Tuesday together with my glucose test! I passed my glucose test, but my CBC seems a little off! Is it possible that I'm anemic?? I do take my prenatal!!
My Dr hasn't contact me, most like will today, but I'm freaking out!!

RBC (normal)4.20 - 5.40 M/ul   (my)3.95

Hemoglobin (normal)12.0 - 16.0 g/dL (my)11.8
Hematocrit (normal)37.0 - 47.0 % (my)36.1

Try eating meat if you can, shellfish actually has quite a bit of iron in it if that's easier to eat. There are two types of iron, heme and non-heme, heme is what comes from meat and fish and gives you the most iron for the amount of food. Heme iron is also the best for Anemics because it increases your iron more effectively than non-heme, which is what you find in things like spinach and legumes.

There's lots of other foods high in iron you can eat! I just love meat and it's easiest to help it go up. But google foods high in iron, there's a big list!

OK thanks ladies! I haven't been eating meat, I'm disgusted by it with pregnancy! I will have to force myself on eating it.

Your numbers aren't that far out of the normal reference range, also keep in mind that drs and labs tend to go by different reference ranges (labs tend to change them every 6-12 months or so) so what you interpret as anemia your Dr may say is normal.

Eh, those numbers seem okay. I had mine off for a couple appts because I wasn't eating a healthy enough diet with iron! I ate red meat and other iron rich foods more often and it went right back up :) prenatals aren't really enough to keep up iron by themselves. Try eating foods high in iron and see how it helps. If you're anemic, they'll put you on a supplement :) no worries
