Yes the test is called amniocentesis I had it just a week ago. It sounds a lot scarier than it really is. Praying for you :)

@Novemberbby no it didn't hurt just a pinch along with a little pressure, however there is a very small risk of miss carrying odds at my physician's office were 1/800 or so I  almost 40 yrs old which put me in a "high risk" category so I opted to go ahead with the test for my own peace of mind. There is another test called the harmony test that is almost just as accurate but we would have had to pay out of pocket for it. yhe amniocentesis is also 99.4 % accurate so that played in with the decision to move forward also. Hope this helps :)

Obviously you're planning on keeping the baby so what does it matter knowing beforehand if it has down syndrome?
It can be very dangerous to do that procedure. It just isnt worth the risk to know before birth. You'll know after anyways so why not wait

Yes, the amniocentesis test has a risk of causing miscarriage, mostly due to infection & bleeding. Talk to your dr. about further testing with just your blood. There's a test where they can take your blood, extract baby's DNA, and analyze it that way. It's similar to the blood test for down syndrome if you have already done it. Only this one is more in depth I believe.

I would say opt out of the procedure. Its dangerous for baby all to find out if the baby has ds

They told me the same thing about my first child, and he turned out perfectly fine and had 0 issues and the problem took care of itself by 24 weeks. Do you have a history with downs syndrome in you or your babbydaddy family? If not I would recommend them taking another ultrasound before that appointment and see if they still see it.  Also is there anything else that makes them suspect your child has downs? I would never recommend an amniotictest. Do your research because i do not know if they told you but there can be complications with that procedure. I don't mean to scare you but I suggest you do more research.

They saw a spot on my baby's heart, and still seen it at 28wks but according to the ultrasound she has no other characteristics of beings down syndrome, so I'm not going to stress it. With the risk of miscarriage with that amnoi test, and it sounding horrific I turned it down!

I have not expierenced this myself but I've heard a lot of moms talk about it. Just putting in my two cents not being rude. If the Dr ever told me my kid will have downs it will be okay for me. Downs kids are the happiest people ever no one can break there sport keep your head up prayers coming you way!
