I am due this sat and at my last app my midwife said that if I don't have a baby before next wed she will have to give me a sweep on that day. Basically, what sorenr has said is right. It does not always work and some women have it done a few times before getting induced.
well tomrw i have an appt and i hope he does it..cause im sick of all the pain;(
you may have heard of having your membranes stripped? its the same thing. The midwife or doc "sweeps" their finger around if your cervix is dilated enough and push the membranes back. It sometimes helps to start labour. It works for me, but I've always been overdue when I've had it done. Like all ways to induce labour, it only works if your body and baby are ready for it. Ask at your next appt.
