Checking for dialation?

I had my 34 weeks appointment today and they checked me for dialation. She said I'm only dialated a finger tip but that my cervix is really really soft. What does this mean?

Its means nothing in relation to labor you could be dilated like that for weeks before labor I have been 1 cm 50% since 38 weeks and now I'm overdue. No signs of labor

i have beeen dialted a 1 for about 5 weeks now,
it can take a while too get into active labor which is from 3-4 cm,
but it means youur body is already preparing for youur baby too come.

a fingertip is pretty much 1 cm
&& youur cervix is starting too thin ouut.
