I've never been a pot smoker, but I do like my whiskey and wine. And I quit drinking and partying for the health of this pregnancy. My decision to drink, or not to drink, is one of many choices I'm going to have to make as a mother. It's not all about me anymore.

As for whether pot specifically is good or bad, I tend to think the question deserves more research. On a purely anecdotal level, I know quite a few people who smoked pot while pregnant. In the case of one of my best friends, her kids had relatively low birth weights in the 5-6 pound range but she's also extremely tiny to begin with. I haven't observed any negative effects in the children, but then none of them are very old yet either.

I agree that smoking anything, regardless of chemical content, is going to take oxygen away from your developing child though. And it's extremely common to find pot that is laced with hard drugs and other harmful contaminants. Unless you grow your own, you really can't be sure that it's safe.

And even if you think it should be legal, most places it's not. If illegal drugs are found in your system, or in your baby, there's a very good chance you'll find yourself dealing with child protective services. It's your choice, but you really need to study up on your local pot laws and know everything you're risking here.

The question you posted says that you know it's not good for the baby, so I think you already know the answer to your question. And I do think it's selfish to do something that works for you, if you know it even has potential negative outcomes on your baby. That's not starting out motherhood right; it's supposed to be about the child, not about you, from the moment that you find out. We have a responsibility to our children.

And I've worked with drug- and alcohol affected babies and toddlers, trust me, if there's any possibility it could have any effect on your baby, you really don't wanna go down that road. You'll regret it for the rest of your life.

Sorry but u made a decision 2b a mother and that comes with responsibilties. My honest answer, JUST QUIT! Its not worth it! Agree w Alaysha that ur baby doesnt have a choice yet he/she will bear the consequence whether it was light or strong.

Its honestly a question you should direct to your doctor. I know a girl who smoked weed during her pregnancy and although her baby is "fine" he shakes. You can feel it when you hold him and you can tell that something is just off with him. Doesn't mean he's not doing what he is supposed to but it's obvious something isn't right. I think it's selfish to even consider it during pregnancy since your baby has NO CHOICE of the outcome.

Look at the side effects it has on adults.. Why would you do it if your responsible for a growing baby.. Why get pregnant.. Would be silly and selfish to risk it anyway

I know some people who smoked while pregnant and there babies turned out perfectly normal. And are very smart if not above it. There are no PROVEN side affects, but anything you breathe in other than oxygen does deprive the baby of oxygen. Also once the baby is born they do drug tests on both you and the baby. And if anything is found they are either Finn take the baby or keep a watch on the both of you.

One person may have been okay, but think about the high as you are coming off it and if you go through any withdrawal symptoms when you don't have it for a while. Then think about your baby going through those same symptoms. It is safer for the baby to stop now. And if you need help there are great clinics that can assist with addictions and pregnancy.
Praying that you can make the right decision for you and your baby.

I'm pretty sure the effects are the same as smoking cigarettes. My mother smoked weed while pregnant with me and I had breathing problems at birth and I was taken away from her until I was 4 months old. Is it really worth any of the possible side effects. Plus it depletes your brain cells and right now your babies brain is developing very rapidly so why chance it....
