And damn right quitting was hard! It was very hard but if you can't handle the difficulty of quitting smoking, how do you expect to handle the difficulty of raising a baby! Also, smoking is a luxury that we SHOULD give up for the health of our baby. If you won't give up that water other sacrifices will you refuse to do?

I quit cold turkey at 4+3 weeks when i missed my mp im 9+4 weeks now at first it was really hard i smoked for 6 years non stop. So i know how hard it can be. What helped me was eating sunflower seeds. I quit because my addiction wasnt worth it. All i could think was what if. I personally wouldn't be able to live with myself if something happened to my baby knowing that i could have prevented it.

As soon as I found out I was pregnant I quit. If I can so can you. It's selfish to smoke. It's No longer your life you are putting at risk. Together have to share your body now. Makes me sad that a child isn't insintive enough to quit for you people.

If you want to quit, I know people who have had great success with hypnotherapy.  But they were driven to give it up. Also there are many problems that can come about in a childs development and later in life that are now being proven to be affected by what happens to them in the womb, ie smoking, drinking, drugs, too much fat in the diet etc.

My sister in law smoked while she was pregnant and my nephew has asthma and he has to wear one of those masks while he sleeps so he doesnt stop breathing. My sister quit when she was pregnant to cut back the chances of having a miscarriage but ended up having something else go wrong and lost the baby. My cousin slowly quit and I cut cold turkey.

Ladies,
Let's remember to be civil, refrain from insults, and offer a supportive environment.  I don't think anyone would state that smoking during pregnancy is good for the baby or recommended by doctors, but there's no need to berate anyone who doesn't agree with your perspective on how much, if any, damage is likely to be caused.

If you can't refrain from making personally-directed, insulting comments, please do not respond at all, as doing so only puts your own posting privileges in jeopardy.

I have asthma from my mom being around ciggs a lot and my newphews and neices have it and there mom's smoked. The way I see it is yeah people do smoke but it's not good for baby. Smoking causes birth defects, lung cancer, and death. It kills so many people every year so if you can ween yourself off of it i'd say it would be thee best thing you could do for your baby. Cigss aren't just nicotine, they have tar, bleach, rat poision and tons of other toxins. Have you tried the electroics ciggs? At least they only have nicotine and would help you quit so you're not so miserable and not  have so many

I quit cold turkey when i found out i was pregnant. i didnt find out til i was 10 weeks but the moment i found out i smoked one last cigarette and threw the rest out the window. Personally the thought of what it could do to my baby made me quit right then. but best of luck to all mommies who have quit and who are trying to quit.

Seriously that is a very selfish thing to do smoking and compromising the health of your baby. Not every one may luck out. You also don't know about the long term effects. That's putting your priorities out of order

Well, if there are no other outliers it is easy to assume, but you are correct that it is not 100%. I study epidemiology and while asthma can be inherited we know that it is generally brought on by environmental factors.. meaning the world around us/the home we live in/and what we put in our bodies. Further, smoking tobacco has a 30% likelihood of creating dependency. Cocoaine has 20-25 & marijuana has 9-10%. Meaning likely the fetus will also be addicted to the nicotine & be very uncomfortable going through withdrawals. It's truly your body your choice.. I'm just telling you things I've studied at a top research Institute (not online). Like I said, I know one woman who smoked and does not notice any difference in her son yet.

My mum smoked a lot when she was pregnant with me and I have pretty bad asthma but that could have also been caused by the alcohol and drugs she had aswell, I weighed around 5lbs and was in an incubator for a few days. As soon as I found out I was pregnant I quit smoking straight away, I think I've caved in 3 times in 5 weeks. Just thought I'd share

Just a question out of curiosity, Do the ladies that smoke cigarettes also find marijuana ok? I was able to quit cigarettes cold turkey but it took me about 4 months to kick the bud. Just wanna know your your thoughts about the differences and if your opposed to one or the other?
