Im 29+6 and still smoke, and dont plan on quitting. And alot of my friends babys came out perfectly fine and they all smoked quite a bit.  it's not ideal during pregnancy but I feel like it's better to slowly cut back than quit cold turkey in my opinion. The stress from withdrawal can sometimes be just as bad I've herd.  All my ultrasounds and test came out normally besides last week when I got slightly dehydrated because I was drinking less water.  Try the blu e cig if your looking for an alternative (:

My sister smoked throughout all 3 of her pregnancies and she has 3 healthy boys now they didn't have low birthweight or anything else wrong with them at birth my oldest nephew is 12 and his iq is already almost at genius level so I think you should be fine especially since you aren't even smoking that much a day

Just curious for the women who know people who have had babies where they smoked the entire preg.. Did there babies come out with any withdrawal symptims?... I currently smoke abput half a pack a day and thats what worries me... With my first it was so easy to quit because it made me nauseous but not this time. Im almost 30wks and feel so guilty about smoking... Tried the patch but that made me feel sick. I told my dr i was getting depressed cause i couldnt quit but he assured me that no birth defects are caused by smoking and since my first son was over 12lbs hes not worried about low birth weight... Made me feel a little betterbetter

I smoked through my entire pregnancy with my first child and although perfectly healthy he was a bit cranky for a few days after birth. The doc told me that it was from withdraws from the nicotine. I'm 30 weeks with my second and all has been good with him too. I've tried to quit multiple times, but each time i do my bloodpressure sky rockets. I wish all of you trying hard to quit good luck :)

I know two children with severe asthma and slow development (coordination) because their parents smoked. I know one child of a mother who smoked the entire pregnancy who is okay so far, but it's hard to tell as he's only two yrs. Not a lecture, just someone asked if anyone knew of children with negative outcomes.

I undersrand that the mother smoked and baby came out woth these conditions but how do they know that smoking caused it? Because i feel like they could have had asthma and been slow developing even if the mom didnt smoke... Of course we will never know bit there are kids born like that where there moms didnt smoke... Not being defensive its just something that goes through my mind when people say its cause they smoked...

Im not going to lecture anyone of course, i understand how hard it can be to stop smoking but just because one person had a healthy baby doesnt mean itll theyre all goimg to be healthy. Theres a lot of research done on smoking and cancer and a lot of other things. And just one more tiny point here, if your body is addicted and you cant stop smoking with a snap of finger, dont you think its unfair to make a newborn go threw that? Because once that baby is off your blood supply itll go threw withdrawl at only a couple hours old. And anyone can try and find a defense to that but point is if baby is eating what your eating and getting all its nutrient from ur body.....then its getting all the junk too. Anyone can react however they want, im not attacking anyone im just pointing out something and you can take it or leave it. No matter what i really do pray for a healthy baby for everyone.

this is my 5th pregnancy 6 baby. I smoke with every last pregnancy. and every last pregnancy came out healthy except for the twins and that's because I have them at 28 weeks because of a short cervix not because of smoking. my oldest is 13 and she is the smartest brightest girl I've ever seen. my twins are now three and they are smarter than ever. not one of my children have asthma any kind of breathing problems or anything. and I actually smoked a little over two packs a day that was more than I smoke before I became pregnant I was craving cigarettes. I feel that it all depends on the persons health. there are plenty of children born everyday to women that do not do any kind of drugs cigarettes alcohol or anything they try to have the healthiest pregnancy and do everything right.
no one will know the outcome all I can say is pray that's all I did I pray because I did feel bad about smoking. but I really really couldn't stop smoking the doctor gave me a patch and it didn't work I tried everything. I leave everything in God's hands so if it was meant for one of my children to be sick they will be. you girls think positive and everything will turn out alright believe me I know.

I agree babyturnip, you never know if the baby is really "healthy", many many things can happen from smoking during pregnancy, not only smoking, but 2nd hand smoke after with a newborn, even smelling it on your clothing. My mom smoked for all 3 of her kids. I have had asthma since I was 4, allergies TERRIBLE every season, my sister had SIDS, thank god they caught her not breathing or she would be dead, and my other sister has a heart issue as well.. all likely linked to smoking, your child is conceived and should be brought into this world with the greatest amount of health possible. It's not his or her choice to smoke and it's unfair to force that on a baby, think of what it's doing to YOUR lungs, let alone your childs.. it's definitely something to consider, just because one baby is born healthy, doesn't mean yours will be, there are MANY risks of smoking, especially SIDS and I don't know about you ladies, but I would do ANYTHING for my children, I would cut off my arm if it meant they would be healthy, literally... so there is no amount of addiction that could prevent me from keeping my kids safe and healthy. It's also something that's extremely hard to do, but it's an addiction brought on by yourself, you knew the risks and side effects when you began smoking, that's something that shouldn't be taken lightly, even from the first cigarette. I hope no one takes offense to this, I'm not "bashing" anyone, but it drives me nuts that people say ohh my baby was perfectly healthy.. well you never know until the child is caught having an asthma attack, a heart issue, or found dead from SIDS. It's something that should be taken very seriously.

you said asthma doesn't run in your family, so if your child does end up with asthma then you'll know it's likely from smoking since it's not in your family. How old is your other child? If he's age enough to run around and get really worked up, it's likely you would've noticed it by now. I found out when I was about 3-4 and was running heavily and would get asthma attacks, so I can't play sports or anything like that, it s*cks!

My mom smoked both pregnancies with me and my younger brother. Both have asthma. Not 100% sure if that's how we got it, but it was enough to scare me into quitting as soon as I found out with both of my pregnancies. She also smoked a pack or more a day tho. I know not everyone can quit like that, but cutting back is the next best thing.

Just a question out of curiosity, Do the ladies that smoke cigarettes also find marijuana ok? I was able to quit cigarettes cold turkey but it took me about 4 months to kick the bud. Just wanna know your your thoughts about the differences and if your opposed to one or the other?

My mum smoked a lot when she was pregnant with me and I have pretty bad asthma but that could have also been caused by the alcohol and drugs she had aswell, I weighed around 5lbs and was in an incubator for a few days. As soon as I found out I was pregnant I quit smoking straight away, I think I've caved in 3 times in 5 weeks. Just thought I'd share

Well, if there are no other outliers it is easy to assume, but you are correct that it is not 100%. I study epidemiology and while asthma can be inherited we know that it is generally brought on by environmental factors.. meaning the world around us/the home we live in/and what we put in our bodies. Further, smoking tobacco has a 30% likelihood of creating dependency. Cocoaine has 20-25 & marijuana has 9-10%. Meaning likely the fetus will also be addicted to the nicotine & be very uncomfortable going through withdrawals. It's truly your body your choice.. I'm just telling you things I've studied at a top research Institute (not online). Like I said, I know one woman who smoked and does not notice any difference in her son yet.

Seriously that is a very selfish thing to do smoking and compromising the health of your baby. Not every one may luck out. You also don't know about the long term effects. That's putting your priorities out of order

I quit cold turkey when i found out i was pregnant. i didnt find out til i was 10 weeks but the moment i found out i smoked one last cigarette and threw the rest out the window. Personally the thought of what it could do to my baby made me quit right then. but best of luck to all mommies who have quit and who are trying to quit.

I have asthma from my mom being around ciggs a lot and my newphews and neices have it and there mom's smoked. The way I see it is yeah people do smoke but it's not good for baby. Smoking causes birth defects, lung cancer, and death. It kills so many people every year so if you can ween yourself off of it i'd say it would be thee best thing you could do for your baby. Cigss aren't just nicotine, they have tar, bleach, rat poision and tons of other toxins. Have you tried the electroics ciggs? At least they only have nicotine and would help you quit so you're not so miserable and not  have so many
