so how much truth is there in this?

I usually always have my nails and toenails painted but now I can't reach my toes so I just left them "naked" for now and my mother in law told me today that I need to keep them like that for now anyway bc were not supposed to have our nails OR toes painted when we go to the hospital to have our babies? Why would that be? I mean I understand maybe my nails so I won't get any on my baby if it chips but my toes? Lol what are they gonna send me home to unpaind them -_-

my mom told me the same thing but she said i can have my toe nails but not my finger nails , because i guess if something goes wrong they can tell if ur finger nails are turning purple , im guessing lack of oxygen or something she said a weird name for it in spanish it started with an f she didnt get into detail.

You can have your nails painted , rather or not you are having surgery . I had my nails done when I went into labor with my daughter & they never said anything about polish or having a manicure period . Not saying these ladies are wrong , but i'm telling you from my experience .

On my induction paper it said to remove all nail polish. I never don't have toe nail polish on, no matter how big I got, I refused to take it off because I hate my toes "naked." I did remove the nail polish on my fingers. While laboring I didn't have socks on (because when they broke my water they got all wet) and no one said anything about it. I figured that if they didn't want me to have it on, they would have nail polish remover there and would have asked me to remove it before they started the induction process.

I think it's funny that everyone's trying to find an explanation lol. I say paint them because I've always had my toes painted throughout my pregnancy and I use like navy and deep reds and pinks and my doctor never said anything. And my friend had an emergency  c-section a couple weeks ago and her toes were a dark purple. You can keep your toes and nails painted it's fine. But if your not sure just asleep your doctor at your next appointment

I remember being in labor and delivery and the nurse was like you're supposed to have your toes painted before you go into labor!! You can't have them naked! Lol so it's perfectly fine to paint your toes.

With my first i made sure to get a pedi like a week before my due date, didn't get my nails done. But this time I'm doing the same & probably gel nails. No acrylics unless you ALWAY wear them and are used to them. You don't want to accidently scratch or poke baby...those nails hurt!

^ yup. Plus the nurses now can tell you if youre not dilating just start chipping the nail on a finger in case of csec lol its not as much of a biggie now as it was even a couple years ago.

The reason is because if you require a c section they will be able to see your toenails. If you have nail polish on they can't see the true color of the skin under your nails. If something goes wrong they wouldn't be able to tell as your skin isn't visible. Like if your heart rate started dropping the skin under your toenails will go blue. But if you have nail polish they won't know

There's alot of truth in this, but my doctor told me the other day if I'm going to have them painted just don't paint them black so they can be able to get a good reading So I'm guessing all dark colors aren't good stick to pastels & light colors... goodluck on your pregnancy :)

That's just my guess tho. I've had a lot of surgeries and they always request no polish, don't use soap when you shower the morning of the surgery, and don't use any moisturizer or make up. But I had a full face of make up and used moisturizer and deodorant and they didn't make me shower beforehand or anything. When my mum saw the first photo of me holding baby in the OR she said the least you could have done is take your make up off! Lol

Yes, if they can't get a reading on your fingers they will try your toes.

^ good point. Makes a lot of sense for that reason.

The only reason I can think of is if you required surgery they prefer you to be polish free so that the thing they put on your finger can get an accurate reading but I didn't know I was going to have a csection and before I went in they didn't make me take it off. I'm sure plenty of women would be in the same situation.
