It depends, you can take FMLA for any variety of reasons. I've taken FMLA for 3 different wrist surgeries I had. You can also take FMLA for another family member (like a child or a sick family member that you help take care of) and there is a section on the paperwork that (if you are filling it out for yourself for pregnancy for example) where it specifies how much time you need per week or month and how many hours per day. My job is extremely physical (I work at UPS) and you can go out on maternity leave (which they consider to be short term disability) at 20weeks but before I went out on STD I was so sick and not feeling well that I asked Human Resources first whether I was eligible (you have to have worked at least 600 hours in year? Or something like that) and they give you the paperwork or fax it over to your doctor to be filled out. Talk to some one in Human Resources and tell them your interested in FMLA and you need to know what you need to do. It's definitely worth checking out
FMLA laws apply to any place that employs over 50 people. Basically you have the right to take 12 weeks of maternity leave and they have to give you your job or a comparable one when you get back. It does not excuse you from work before your maternity leave starts however. I'm sure all companies have their own policies so you will have to consult human resources or your personnel manual.
.. do you know how i can go about doing this and if its availble in NC, cause they told me i have to take a leave 4-12 weeks and that was all.. idk if my job is telling me everything do you know who i can talk to or go see to go about this??
I was released from my job because of a doctor's note :/ now I'm trying to get unemployment
If you need any more info about it let me know!
FMLA stands for Family Medical Leave of Absence. It's a government program so everyone qualifies and basically Human Resources gives you a sheet that your doctor fills out saying that you either aren't able to work or aren't able to work full shifts (like my doctor put I could miss UP TO 3days a week and UP TO 8hours a day) so if I needed to call in, or leave early, or get there late they couldn't say anything to me or penalize me. Find out about it, it was the best thing I could've done
Are you a union employee? Also, what I did was I took FMLA time before going on short term disability from my job this way they couldn't say anything to me about missing days or being late
i only have 7 more weeks to deal with her though :)
yea i had to sign it and write my "comments" on the matter and date it, but one was for Feb 18th and the other was today i was 30 min late and called just to let them know ahead of time, but all she is, is a shift leader ill call and talk to the manager or general manager tmrw and sort it out.. i just dont see how she "forgot" to give it to me in Feb and todays should've never counted against me because of the doctors note.. but its whatever lol
Did u ask her why she never gave it to in feb? Id ask for a copy and make sure the date of delivery is on it. As for being late thats bs if you have a doc note. Do u work retail? Im a store manager and that **** would never fly. Id just talk to your dm and clear it up with her. Now if your not planning on returning to work after babe i wouldnt worry abiut it. That ***** shes being a ***** to you tho. You have eniugh to worrry about. Jusat go and do yiur job and act like it doesnt bother you. Not worth srressing over.
