step b

I go in for my test in a week. I've looked online and all out really says is that it is a bacteria some women have and some don't, that can be harmful to baby. Does anyone have more info on it?? Like what causes it? Why is it harmful to baby? Why do only done women have it?

I tested positive with my first and was put on antibiotics when i went into labour its no big deal. Baby.can get an infection if they were yo b born and u didnt have the antibioticd so thats why they test u early. Its just a bacteria we carry but u dont know u have it until you are pregnant.

Every woman has it, some times its active and some times it not. Its possible to have it with one pregnancy and not another, just the same as its possible to test positive at one point in your pregnancy and not later on, which is why they wait until the last month to test. It is not harmful to us because we have had it in our bodies  from the get go, so we have a built up immunity to it. It is  possible to pass it through to the baby by vaginal delivery because the bacteria is found in the vaginal canal. The best explanation I've found is that its similar to strep throat, but only because its in the same viral family. It is not actually strep throat, it just shares common denominators with its 'dna' it can cause a variety of illness in babies, like pneumonia, and other pulmunovascular disorders. Its almost sort of like a flu. Because babies don't have immunities they can't fight infections, so if you test positive, during your labor you will recurve intravenous antoniotics, usually penicillin, but there are alternatives available in case of allergies. Most babies won't contract it from a positive mother. I know a couple women who didn't complete the antibiotics because their labor was too short, and their babies are perfectly healthy. I tested positive, so I've done lots of reading on it because I'm a worry wart, but every health official I've spoken too says that there is no guarantee the baby will get it, they run the antibiotics as a precaution, and have ways to treat the baby if in fact they do catch it.

Haha I'm the same. I read EVERYTHING so its like "omg what's this? What happened with that?" Lol. But if it is positive all they do is give you antibiotics and call it a day (:

Well my midwife told me all women have it and it's a matter of if it gets inside your vagina or not. We all develope it young I guess and it helps us be immune to it later in life. Other than that I have no idea how ots harmful to the baby. I didn't really ask since my test came back negative.
