my crib was recalled :(

I had bought a crib from a friend when her daughter moved to a toddler bed. I've had it for almost 2 months and today decided to look it up for recalls. Turns out it was recalled in 2009 ugh. It's a drop side & has a metal frame that apparently is easy to bend and break. I can't put my baby in there knowing 26 babies have been injured/died from it. I don't even know what to do with it now. I'm out $75. It's garbage. The company that made it isn't even in business anymore since EVERY crib they made was recalled

Yeah drop side cribs are illegal to sell but not illegal to own here in Texas. I can't think of a store that does layaway. There are no kmarts here :/ my aunts giving me her crib which is also a drop side, but at least there isn't a metal frame under the mattress

i dont think it has anything to do with walmart. They are a vendor. It has to do with what company made the crib.

I got two cribs from walmart in 05 for my twins different types and brands they were both recalled. We ended up just using pack n plays and put them in toddler beds as soon as they were walking. I refuse to buy walmart cribs now.

Walmart has some decent priced cribs and if you can't afford that you could always use a play yard hun. I'm not sure if your area has Craigslist or not but I'd look there also. Good luck hun I'm sorry your crib was recalled :(

Find a place that does layaway! I went to kmart and put a crib on and paid it off in a few weeks. It was 179 for the crib.

It says on the recall don't even try to fix them. Just stop using it. There are no replacement parts

The company is out of business. The drop side isn't the only issue with it. My boyfriend wanted to do a weight test and actually got in it to prove to me it was safe. Needless to say the entire metal part where the mattress lays shifted down. Didn't break but even now he says he doesn't want her in there

You can always try to see if any children consignment shops have any cribs...I got mine at babies r us for only 250 dollars. I know not everyone has that to put down at once, but I put mine  on layaway and make a payment once a week until I could get it. Only took me a couple of weeks.

You can probably screw the drop side up on the outside of the crib with a metal plate. Lowes or menards or whatever your local hardware store is can probably help you out. Like I said though, I personally love the drop side. Its probably because I'm 5 foot lol.

Isn't there gadgets that you can buy that makes it not a drop side crib? I thought when they started recalling them that had something like that and then that made them safe.  I could be wrong.  I dont have a drop side crib.

You can change it up so it wont move by using screws.

I have a drop side crib that I got from a woman I know who runs daycare. She can't use it anymore because its dropside. I personally love it. Only 26 babies died out of how many people baught the crib? I don't think its too bad but that's my opinion. I didn't put bumpers up though and I bet a lot of people in 2009 still thought bumpers were okay (total guess) which they are now not because of an increased SIDS factor. Idk but its just me, I'd still use it. Especially if its still in excellent condtion and your comfortable using it.
