Group B streptococcus (GBS) is a type of bacterial infection that can be found in a pregnant woman’s vagina or rectum. This bacteria is normally found in the vagina and/or rectum of about 25 % of all healthy, adult women. Those women who test positive for GBS are said to be colonized. A mother can pass GBS to her baby during delivery. The bacteria that causes group B strep normally lives in the intestine, vagina, or rectal areas. Group B strep colonization is not a sexually transmitted disease (STD). Approximately 25% of all healthy women carry group B strep bacteria. I was really freaked out about it, whatever you do .. Don't read about it on the net .. You will get paranoid like I did until I had to talk to my doc again.
Okay I'm 37+3 ftm just a little nervous. I'm also allergic to penicillin which is the antibiotics they usually give so I have to get another one.. scary. hope all is well
I tested positive for my first son had a csection...but my second son i was okay with this baby idk yet havent gotten tested maybe in 2-3 weeks more...im turning 34 weeks on thursday and they test u for that around 35 weeks
It's a bacteria and u get tested for it around 35-37 wks. It's a swab that goes into your vagina and rectum.
What is strep b ? & how do they test for it ? Or when ?
I haven't given birth yet but I'm also pos. Dr just said that whenever I'm in labor I'll get antibiotic through an IV so baby won't get it.
