Just wondering

I was just wondering about pregnant women that never gets a positive result on hpt and continues to get periods or bleeding. Would it make sense to say that since they have low hcg,not enough to show in their urine. It's also the reason why they still get their period, coz hcg is the reason why period stops. Has anyone read anything bout this?

I've heard where some women don't show a positive on a urine test for whatever reason. They eventually do because the hCG has to rise for the pregnancy to be viable, so at some point logically it should show. You don't actually have a period while pregnant. (except in very rare cases) You would just get vaginal bleeding which could be caused from any number of things. I don't believe it's the hCG that causes you to not bleed, but the progesterone that your body makes while pregnant. That's why some doctors will tell some women to take it who have low levels and bleed a lot during their pregnancies.

Thank you ladies! I just hear a lot of stories of women not knowing until it's late so I've always wondered, I'm getting a little paranoid.

You can have periods whilst preg, think of those people who dont know there preg untill they go into labour because everything is still the same....

But its only rare... If you're preg your body should pick up a Pos result...

It is rare to have bleeding, negative tests and still be pregnant. Can it happen? Sure but for the most part if you are having period-like bleeding with negative tests you're most likely on your period, even if it is not what you consider a normal period.

Blood test and sonogram are the way to go if you suspect something! Good luck!

I'm sorry I meant to say 7-8wks after the last confirmed period, which would be about 3-4wks after the first missed or abnormal period.

I have read something about some women having an antibody that attaches itself to the HCG which can cause it to be masked on tests...but if negative tests are combined with period bleeding pregnancy is unlikely. I also think this tale of the antibodies is either untrue or INCREDIBLY rare (although it sounds fairly logical). After about 5-6weeks after conception (which would be 7-8wks after a missed period) an ultrasound will be able to confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt whether a woman is pregnant or not, irregardless of urine/blood tests and/or bleeding.
