IUD Mierna and Pregnancy

for starters this may be a little TMI but i need advice. I have the IUD Mirena for about a year and a half, and towards the end it started getting painful, my partner ended up being cut by the strings, i couldnt sit and it was painful to do anything. i went to the hospital because the IUD caused me to have a severe migraine to the point where i couldnt open my eyes or move my head, i was put on an IV and left alone in hospital room for 5 hours (note that i live in canada and apperently drs/nurses have better things to do like sit on their *****, sorry to any drs/nurses out there reading this but that was my experience) anyways, the migrane went away and i had asked if my IUD could be removed, they told me that they dont take them out and that i had to see my dr. well my dr was away on holidays so i couldnt get in to see him for almost a month. I went to another dr and she had told me the only people who can take it out was either planned parenthood or womens health. so i went home in pain yet again and called womens health, they would book me in to get it out within a month... not good enough for me because it was terrible pain and spotting already!!! so i called planned parenthood and they booked me in on Dec 6 2012. so i took it. waited anxiously till the day came. i went in and the dr had told me that the IUD had moved and that the strings were about an inch longer then they should be. i asked the dr after it was out if i would experience any bleeding, he had said it would be like spotting and itll go away within 2 days. and my normal period would come the day its expected.. NOT!. once i got home the spotting became like a light period. then by the next day i was going through maxi pads (the heaviest pad out there) and was changing it almost every 30 min to an hour. i thought it was normal.. then by Dec 8 i was passing clots. i had read on other forums that many women had gone through this and drs had said it was normal. while other forums i had read said women spotted for a few days then stopped and got their periods on time. i bled for 2 weeks straight (Dec 6- Dec 22/23) the last few days of bleeding it slowed down a little and it was just tissue and blood, to the point if i pushed it would just come out. it would stop then the next time i went to the bathroom it would be heavery again. me and my husband are trying for baby number 2, and want to know if anyone else has had this same thing happen because of the IUD mierna and how fast they got pregnant after!? my next period is expected on Jan 3, 2013. i just started taking prenatal vitamins and folic acid to prepare my body for pregnancy. please HELP!

I only had the mirena in for a couple of months before I had it taken out, I do not recommend it. However, my periods are still not regular as before I had my daughter and after I had my periods regular.

You are certainly not alone. I had Mirena for 4 years and then started bleeding heavily, went to the doctor and they found that I had become pregnant with it in and miscarried. I had it removed and then bled heavily for 3 weeks, then had no period for 6 months. For the next year and a half my periods were extremely irregular and I ended up having to be on provera monthly just to have them. I am now 10 weeks pregnant but it was a rough road. Whenever patients come in wanting the Mirena IUD I tell them to research it and inform themselves of all the risks before they decide.

Thanks kailyn! Just knowing someone out had problems with the iud doesnt make me feel alone or like something is wrong with me. Im 2 days late now and pg tests say negative. Yet ive been throwing up, smells get to me. Everything youd expect when pregnant. Im being blown off by every dr i see and told its too soon. I have an app on my phone that tracks my period and ovulation. Its been dead on everytime going on a year now. So im just going to wait. But im glad everything worked out for you!

I had the Mirena after the birth of my daughter 3 years ago. After 4 months of having it, I experienced extreme migraines and noticed I had dropped from 148 (weight the day I left hospital after giving birth) to 99 pounds in only 4 months... Then I noticed a lot of unexplained bruises. I immediately went to my OB and found out my Mirena had implanted in my uterus causes a perforation which allowed a bacterial parasite to enter my bloodstream and I had to have blood transfusions... About 4 months later, I conceived again, unplanned.. I went to my dr to see if baby would be okay with all my complications and I was given strong advice to terminate my pregnancy or risk my uterus ripping and possibly killing me.. I terminated the pregnancy and gave my uterus a year to heal and then began trying to conceive again.. Two years later, I'm FINALLY pregnant with a healthy little boy (after 3 miscarriages)..  I know my story isn't like yours but the Mirena can cause infertility.. If I were you I would try tracking your ovulation for a few months and then try conceiving. Good luck(:
