No Period AFTER Mirena REMOVAL

I, unlike a lot ofyou have had a positive experience w/ Mirena.  I had just had my second son and wanted to continue Breastfeeding so Mirena was the Birth Control we chose.  I had it put in around March 2008 and had it removed August 9, 2011.  I know it has been 34 days and NO PERIOD.  I cannot even say I have had spotting.  Once day I thought I was bleeding so I put a tampon in, but when I removed it a few hours later it really was just a waste.  On 9/3/11 I had a clear, sticky, very elastic discharge in a large amount when I wiped I literally had to pull it out. (sorry for the info but want to explain so that I can get the best answers from you).  My husband and I did have intercourse that night.  So, if it was discharge relating to ovulation than that would be great.  In the last 34 days we have had sex 14 times, UNPROTECTED..... I took a First Response pregnancy test on day 26 of Mirena being removed, day 32 of Mirena being removed, and day 34 of mirena being removed.... they all have yielded negative results.  I could possibly be testing early or just am not pregnant.  I have called my OBGYN Nurses and they pass me off and say just wait, just wait... they offer me no other similarities to my story.  I have read so much that I am still fertile, but I have read so many negative testimonials online that I just do NOT know what is going on... any advice?  Should I test again next week if no period again?  Is there such a thing as a false negative? Thank you.

What finally happened with your situation?  I'm in a similar one.  I had the Mirena for 3 1/2 years and had it removed on Nov 6, 2012.  It's been 33 days since removal, and I've not had a period.  I didn't have periods while I had the Mirena.  I've taken tests with negative results.  I have been cramping bad after exercise with no spoting.  Really curious what's going on.  My husband and I have also been having unprotected sex since day 1 of the removal.  I've considered calling the doctor, but I'm wondering if they will brush me off.

Thank you, that is helpful.  I understand everyone is different, but it is just strange how someone can get pregnant right away and I may have missed the opportunity.  That is why I am not a Doctor... ha ha Thank you. :)

Wow, this story sounds eerily familiar. A co-worker of mine had her Mirena removed and she didn't get her first cycle until about 7 weeks later. She was super impatient because she wanted to start trying to have more children but the doctors kept telling her to WAIT. Well she got her period and got her BFP the following month. They also were having unprotected sex right after the removal of Mirena but nothing happened. I agree with the doctors. Give your body a chance to have a cycle. I know it may seem like forever but it will be worth it and all of the birth control hormones etc will be out of your system. Good luck and hoping that you get your BFP soon :)

I have an appt tomorrow w/ my NP b/c apparently nobody wants to give any detailed answers over the phone.  I assured them that I am not going to sue them I just want some different scenarios b/c I do know my body and 35 days Post Mirena w/ no signs of anything I just feel is odd.  I, too had NO PERIODS the entire time b/c when I started Mirena I was also Breast Feeding so my period had never returned from giving birth. :) If I was truly ovulating on 9/3/11 then it is only 11 dpo, but they won't even say if what I was experiencing was ovulation or not.  They weren't very helpful so they told me to come in and talk to them face-to-face.  What could they possibly tell me that they won't over the phone.  They treat me like I am crazy b/c it has "only" been 35 days but seriously why would they want to wait until a real issue arises?  They said 6 - 12 months before they would be concerned well that is crap!  :(  I will keep you updated!

Yes there is a such thing as a false negative but its very rare but it does happen. I also had the mirena and the docs told me you can get pregnant immediately after having the mirena removed. I would be on edge until I took a test. So I would suggest to take another test or just wait and see what happends next month. The mirena stopped my periods all together i dont really remember how long after I had it removed that I started my period but if your stopped all together like mine it may just be taking it a while for your body to adjust to not having that birth control in. Keep updating Id love to know the outcome!!
