The baby can most likely suffocate with the bumper also stuffeed animals blankets pillows all things a newborn should not have in crib if its cold a light blanky heavy jammies
I have breathable bumpers. They are pretty thin. I got them for my baby shower, so I'm not sure how much they cost. I know they came from target though.
OK cool, I'll have to look into.it thanks :)
I haven't seen them out of the package, but due to the package being so slim, I don't think they are very thick at all. Their packaging is no where near the size of a regular bumpers package.
See I think it is dangerous for them.to get and.arm.or.leg caught but I'd much rather have to take them to the ER then wake up and them have smothered. How thick.are the breathable Pumper pads? Cause an issue my cousin had was her daughter would stand on top of it and hoist herself up to the top of the crib and try to.climb out, luckily she always tipped back into the crib and never fell out. But my cousin had to take the bumpers out for.that reason.
I want one of those breathable bumpers. I've seen them at Target, Babies R Us, and Walmart so far. On one hand I get why bumpers are so dangerous, on the other, its just as dangerous for baby to get his or her arm caught in between the rails of the bed which is why I think their making a breathable bumper was a great idea. I've yet to buy one, as one of the posters above said they are around $30, but hopefully I will get one before my boy is here!
After.my experience I'll never use them.or recommend them.I love swaddle blankets! I've never heard of the sleeping bag things! I'll have to.look into thar since our house gets chilly at night.
Ive used bumpers with both my previous pregnancies and will use one with this pregnancy as well. BUT baby never is in their crib till they've outgrown the bassinet. All my kids have slept in a bassinet until they are around 3 months old(or older).
You can swaddle with a regular receiving blanket, if you ask the nurse at the hospital they can show you how to do it. It keeps them snug and warm like they are in the womb so babies usually love it and it helps them sleep better. I've read even the new "breathable" bumpers are considered unsafe, I won't be using any bumpers in the crib.
There's a swaddling blanket (mine velcroed) and it wrapped the baby up tight in the blanket, so they couldn't move much and they felt like they were being held/warm/cozy! I loved it! It wraps from their arms (or not arms, if you don't want to, I never did) all the way down around their feet!
I just think bumpers are a p.i.a. (pain in the a*s!)
I plan to use bumpers pads! I have no fear of them...as long as you place them properly in the crib-which is tied tight to bars on both top and bottom of pads and wedging them atleast 3inches down between the mattress and crib bars....this will leave only 3 or 4 inches above the mattress so they will not bump their head on the bars! With the pads wedges there is no way for the baby to get under the bumper pads! It truly everyone preference of using them or not! A lot of stuff has changed since I was a baby for safety issues some I agree with others not so much! It basically comes down to how view certain thing being safe or not for our children! I do wish all you mommies lots of safe healthy years ahead of you on your new journey and many blessings!
ive never ever heard anything about bumpers not being safe! i used bumpers for both of my kids and plan on using them for this baby as well. BUT my kids didnt sleep in the crib til they were around 6-7 months old. I had the bumpers off for awhile but then my son would constantly bang his head against the bars cause he moves so much when he sleeps.
Recommendations in the UK are that you place baby down so that their feet are at the bottom of the cot so that they dont wriggle up and bang their heads (among other reasons too) I always tucked them in with large sheets so that the sheets couldnt be pulled up over their heads (more sheet tucked in under the matress than is visible) and when they were bigger and stronger and had begun kicking off the covers, I used the sleeping bags which are great for any nighttime feeding too as baby stays cosy. I have never had bumpers and really dont understand why they are still sold when the dangers are well known, I dont even really see the purpose other than looking pretty as babies cant fit their heads through the bars, they dont cover enough of the bars to stop legs getting through and if kids bang their heads, their not padded enough to stop it hurting surely?
We also swaddled our son, kept him right in place and he did so good with it, loved it! We'll be doing that with this one as well!
We swaddled for a couple months...then he refused it. I made sleep sacks instead of buying the expensive ones. If you can sew at all...they are easy to make.
The liner looking thing that is kinda padded, it comes in the crib set.
They said the sleeper bag is the best thing and to have NOTHING in the crib no pillows, no stuffed animals and If a blanket is in there dont cover them up with it.
Never used my bumper either...I found the sleeping bags brilliant cos u don't have to worry bout them wriggling under covers or gettin a foot stuck. has anyone used a swaddling blanket for first few weeks...I got one but dunno if I'm gonna use it!
Not a lot of people know the dangers of bumpers. My first pregnancy I didn't know, I just thought they were stupid looking. I didn't know until my son was like 10 months old.
I was scary. They did like a undercover story and non of the employees but one told the lady about the danger. Factorymom that's a good idea and alot cheaper then buying the wall hangers.
