very serious question?

Okay so when I found out I was pregnant I also found out I had bronchitis again. I didn't want to tell my mom just yet about the pregnancy but my family doctor did because she wanted me to have cough syrup instead of the pills. So isn't that against the law they can't tell your information even if it's my mother? I'm just mad at the fact they told her when I wanted to myself. I'm 22 but still they have no right to tell her...right???

At the age of 18 I had had to sign a peace of paper for my mom to be in the room but at my obgyn is totally different but I am a medical office assistant and we had to go over HIPPI  it was a law written to protect our privacy

I'm a pharmacy technician also and sorry rachkosar you are incorrect. It is completely illegal for them to do that. As long as the patient knows what medication  take and what medication not to take they can not give her information.

Not if I already took the medicine they have no right to say anything. My doctor told my mom without asking my permission. So they was not acting inside off the law. Last time I checked your not a doctor our my pharmacist so I advise you to fall back....

ACTUALLY THEY HAVE THE RIGHT. As a pharmacy technician I can tell you many many many medicines can cause DEATH for a fetus and if its something that could save a life they absolutely 110% were acting inside of the law.

The last time I filled out paper work for them was when I was 15 and I know Damn sure I didn't need her to know anything I was doing. I do want to call them and like say something cuz they shouldn't have done that. They did call me the same day she found out. But if I didn't answer they shouldn't have said anything. This was a messed up situation.

I work at a hospital in medical records and we definitely can not release any patients medical information without patient consent. The patient has to specify on a authorization who they give permission to retreive your medical records. Go back and check all the paperwork you may have signed and unless you specified and gave them authorization to release your information to your mother they can not.

Yea,he had no right to so that. How hard is it to say, no she wants the pills?:P kind of weird that your mom is that involved in your medical treatment anyway, you're an adult.

Yea cause I don't think I gave them permission at all only at the on gun is when I gave them permission. Yea I might take some legal action because I wanted to surprise Her. But it's her fault for snooping when I specifically told her I Will take the pills lol mothers I hope I'm not like this hahaha

No matter your age, the doctors or nurses can't release any information to anyone about you unless you give permission. I had chlamydia at 16 and I made sure my mom would not find out and they told me they legally couldn't. That's a legal issue and that doctor can lose their job if you made that issue a concern to the clinic

Right. There's laws under the right to privacy act, you're a legal adult, if you don't want it known they can't let the cat outta the bag

If you are 22 they shouldn't be releasing information to anyone unless you gave permission like signed a paper.
