what is this pain?

I'm 38+1 weeks and today ive been getting pain in my pelvic and lower back areas, this is my first baby so I'm totally uneducated on what everything is supposed to feel like. I can't work out if I'm having pressure pains or contractions. The pain seem to be irregular but they come and go which is why I think it could just be pressure pains. Confused as to whether I should start packing my hospital bag or not lol. I don't know what is going on!!!

Just because you're having contractions doesn't mean they will be painful. They can just be uncomfortable. My baby is 3 weeks old and my contractions weren't super painful until I was 8-9 cm dialated. You can download a contraction timer on your phone its super easy to use once you know that they're coming consistently and more often then start timing them.

I will definitely pack a bag tonight, I feel like they should be more painful if they are contractions, I'll have to make a note of how regular they are I haven't really been keeping tabs I'm massivly in denial, I'm terrible at this pregnancy thing! Lol.

Well one I would defiantly pack the bag just in case. An two I'm having the same pain an have yet to of figured it out. I've tried laying down an it makes it worse. So I know how you feel. I'm 36 weeks

They sound like contractions. But they could stop. Just keep paying attention to them. You should already have your bag packed so I'd do that now. But you can contract for days without being in full labor.
