The fasting depends on your doctor. My doctor never had me fast. I just made sure I didn't eat tons of sweets the day before
Usually, you don't have to do the 3 hour test unless you didn't pass the 1 hour glucose test, I've never heard of someone taking the 3 right off the bat, if that's what you mean... I took my 1 hour test a few days ago and never had to do the 3 hour (third pregnancy here), because I tested negative each time.
Anyway, you're given a glucose drink that tastes kind like Gatorade and basically sit around until time passes and then they draw your blood. This is a test to see whether or not you may have gestational diabetes by testing your blood sugar levels. Most doctors will tell you not to eat anything sweet (if anything at all) hours before the test, or it could cause a spike and you could get a false positive.
First you do the 1 hour test...I couldn't eat past midnight. .. then you drink the drink they give you and wait an hour. Then you get your blood drawn. if your glucose is too high, then you do the 3 hour one. It's the same thing but they draw your blood 3 different times. I have my 3 hour one next week too.
Well... nothing is really necesaary. You can tell them you don'r want any kind of test or ultrasound, it is your body, they don't own you. But I would get it if I were you.
And is it absolutely necessary? I don't like the fact that I can't eat for 12+ hours.
Glucose is your sugar. They check your levels.
Okay.... can anyone tell me what exactly it is? Details, etc.
Yeesss! Mines is next week,, i wish i did not have to do it :(. I be sooo hungry
