WHAT? I was eating pineapple like it was going out of style - I was craving it. I have had healthy ultrasounds to date - and hopefully now it is out of my system and wont cause issues. GOOD GRIEF!
Well, nothing I read is 'out there' in terms of *why* they say you shouldn't do it. For instance, I understand that lunch meats can carry bacteria that could get you sick and cause things such as miscarriage. Also, I understand not getting into a hot tub that will raise your core body temp 'cause it's like having a really high fever and that can harm your baby.
What I mean by "out there" is how paranoid everyone seems to get about all the do's and don'ts. Granted, I'm not gonna go out and stock up on hot dogs to eat cold, but I'm not going to flip out every time I eat a sandwich with cold lunch meats or use clorox wipes to clean my counters.
My input is slightly different...
I say do NOT do too much internet research.. It will make you crazy and annoy your doctor when you start asking questions that are totally "out there!" =)
Natural chemicals in fresh pineapple can cause uterine contractions. Again, to me, this is one of those foods that, if used in moderation, is perfectly safe during pregnancy. Now, if you're eating bowlfuls of it every day, the build up of the chemical may cause the contractions.
As with all pregnancy do's and don'ts, I feel like some things are a little "out there" and are okay if used in moderation!
Yeah, really!
I just had some pineapple the other day when I went to a chinese buffet!
Now you got me all worried n sheyit.
=/
Yeah...what's wrong with pineapple!?! I just ate some yesterday!
whats wrong with pineapple and papaya?
don't eat pinapple and papya
Obviously, drinking alcohol and doing drugs are the biggest no-no ...(in my opinion whether you're preggo or not! lol). There are a lot of foods doctors and books say you should avoid: processed meats (hot dogs, lunch meats) that aren't steamed/cooked, sushi and other kinds of fish (b/c of mercury levels), unpasteurized stuff (certain cheeses), and the list goes on and on. Also, no taking hot baths or getting in hot tubs or saunas that raise your core body temp. No cleaning the kitty litter 'cause of toxoplasmosis (I think that's what it's called) ... tho I've done this a couple times, but I wore gloves and made sure I washed my hands really well afterwards.
It's very easy to go to Google and just type in "do's and don'ts of pregnancy" and you'll get quite a few sites. Truthfully, I take most with a grain of salt and if I do have a craving for something on the no-no list (like a cold ham and cheese sandwich) I only do so in moderation.
