At our hospital in Baton Rouge, La. And in Alexandria, La. We are only able to induce a women 7 days before the due date which is at your request. We cannot deliver any sooner unless there is a prolblem and the baby has to be delivered. Most of the time we like to wait until your due date, because the longer your baby bakes the healthier he or she will be.

I agree with most of what was said here except the advice against being induced bc the doctor believes the baby is getting too big. Yes our bodies were designed to give birth but that doesn't mean our bodies will stop a baby's growth when it reaches the ideal size. The genetics of both parents go into how big the baby gets not just the mothers size. I was induced at 38 wks with my son bc the doctor was worried he would get to big. I'm only 5ft tall and a 100lbs when not pregnant. When I had him he was a little too big and his shoulder got stuck and they had to use the suction cup to assist getting him out. The next baby my doctor decided to wait until 39wks bc she was going on vacation the week before and that baby was too big. Even at a week early she was almost a pound more than the last and the delivery was horrific. I had an episitomy and still tore. I had two nurses on top of me holding me down while another shoved on my stomach pushing my stomach and the doctor reached in with her own hands to pull the baby out bc she was stuck and so tight there was no time to waste on using the suction cup which probably wouldn't have been strong enough to pul her out in time anyhow. I had twice as much blood loss as your supposed to do and they had an awful time stopping the bleeding. My daughter had to go immediately to get an xray to check if any bones were broke. Her body temperature kept dropping extremely low so she had to be constantly monitored for hours. When I finally did get to hold her she looked like a baby that had been beaten covered in bruises from her delivery. She also developed severe jaundice from her traumatic delivery and we had to have a billibed and i wasn't allowed to get her out except to feed and change her and take her to the hospital for daily blood draws. So if your doctor wants to induce you bc they believe the baby is getting too big listen to them! If there's no reason at all other than to get the pregnancy over with then I say wait and let your body go into labor when it's ready. I think a lot if doctors induce early just bc it's become so common place in America. I went a week over with my first, and smallest, baby and she was perfectly healthy.

You have a right to say no to induction. Dont let them do it if ur not comfortable with it. If they try and say baby is to big that is not a medical reason its mediclally called macrosomia nd is not a reason to induce our body were made for this so trust in it. Plus babys don't continue to grow the longer they are in they level off  at about 39 to 40 weeks

In France your due date is at 41 weeks. 50-80% of women gestate until after 40 weeks. Apparently the 40 week theory is based on Naegele's rule on calculating gestation on the lunar months but does not take into account that babies do infact grow at different rates, menstral cycles vary n the time implantation takes varies also. This can cause gestation to vary as much as 5 weeks

Ladies, everyone is entitled to their opinion and should be allowed to make their own decisions as far as their baby is concerned.  HOWEVER,  I personally would never let myself become overdue.  There are many factors involved... First off,  when I say overdue,  I mean going past 40w when you are 100% sure about your dates (it's different of there was question about your due date in the beginning). I'm not going to everything right now,  but the main reason I wouldn't go over due is simply because of the risk of the baby having a bowel movement in utero. The baby can aspirate the meconium and have  difficulty breathing,  or can even be fatal.  And for me,  that risk does NOT out weigh the benifit.

Here in the UK they will not induce you until 42 weeks unless there is a medical reason to do it before

A hospital will let you induce 7 days before your due date. You cannot deliver any earlier then that unless prolblems.

Ya,i was induced with my first at 39 weeks. Very very painful contractions btw. Lol. I was induced for severe hip pain i couldnt really walk without assistance and they were worried i would go into labor when my husband wasnt home. (also we had bad cell reception and no home phone so even in an emergency i wouldve been screwed)

Doctors sadly rarely let people go into labour naturally these days. They want to base your babies birth around their schedule.

Sadly a lot of doctors/hospitals like to fit you in when it suits them rather than letting you go into labor naturally.
