I was told by my doctor that a glass of red organic wine is ok. Organic because of the chemicals that can be in wine these days.

As long as you're in your 2nd trimester I see nothing wrong with having a glass here or there. They suggest you not in your first trimester because that's when fetal alcohol syndrome usually occurs but as long as you're not getting wasted..I don't see a problem with it. I drank with my 1 year old and she's smarter than I am lol. To each their own dear.

5 ounces of wine is equivalent to 1 1/2 ounces of distilled liquor. Alcohol is alcohol to me & I wouldn't risk it.

Five ounces of wine is equivalent to 1 1/2 of 80 proof distilled liquor. In other words alcohol is alcohol to me & I wouldn't risk it.

There are plenty of doctors who advise that a glass here and there is fine, and there are others who advise against it altogether.  It's up to each mother to assess her own comfort level with drinking alcohol.  Let's keep things in perspective - no one is suggesting getting drunk, so please keep comments civil and not insult anyone for making a choice that many mothers make WITH the approval of their doctors.

Like I said before, my baby is just fine and I drink a glass occasionally. My mother was drinking 2 bottles of tequila a night when she found out she was pregnant with me and I have had a high IQ my entire life. There is no way to tell what your body and baby will take. But I honestly believe that if your baby was going to have problems, it will regardless of how careful you are during your pregnancy. I don't know or care how many agree or disagree but I believe that it's all in God's hands. The doctors tell you these things to "try" to prevent things like that from happening. Not a guarantee that your baby will come out perfectly fine.

It's just sad to see that a mother would sacrifice her child's health just for a glass of wine. There are a lot of women who can't share this experience with us & it's like you're taking it for granted!  I would never drink or smoke while pregnant it's not that serious. It will be over soon!

I even asked about white wine and the doc said it was fine only once in a while. The antioxidant benefits out weigh the risk of the alcohol. Wine is made with a different process and is far different than beer or malt liquors. I had one for my birthday in nov . one on Christmas and am absolutely allowed one for new years eve. Baby loves the sugar too he moves like crazy and development is totally normal:)

Nobody knows for sure how much is safe so my advice if you really care for your unborn put baby first alcohol will always be there your baby could suffer.

I do not agree with this at all... If you can't go without don't get pregnant. Your risking your babies health. You could drink lots and be fine or have one sip your baby will be messed up for life. I have adopted cousins with fetal alcohol syndrome and it's not easy for anyone.

I was told a glass of red wine once or twice a week. It helps build red blood cells. I drink a glass occasionally and my baby is just fine..
