women who plan to pump

Idk if you know this but breastmilk separates. So you have to mix it.

Well I just found out that you shouldn't shake it to mix it. Apparently the molecules and fat proteins are so delicate that shaking it can damage it. So you should swirl the bottle or container to mix the fat and liquid.

Haha who knew you could damage it by shaking it. I had no fricken idea. Glad I know now I've been shaking it for 2 weeks now. I bf for 5 weeks I've been exclusively pumping for 2 now. I live finding out the things I'm doing wrong. Haha

Well your baby will eat 1-2 oz for the first couple weeks to a month then move to 4 oz for awhile my son is 7weeks and it just depends how hungry he is. I always make him a 4oz bottle now because he can eat that much but sometimes he'll eat only 2 then the other 2 and hour or two later. So having 2 oz for a newborn is a good amount. Remember babies stomachs are only the size of their fist.

I exclusively pumped for my first baby and bf my second. I 100% disagree when they say it's bad to pump because it'll reduce your supply. That's just not true.  You can exclusively pump and bottle feed.  I did it so I know it can be done.

Pumping is not good because it reduces your milk you have to have baby on the boob to get more milk like above said

Lactation Consultant and she told me That's the worst way to get your milk to produce more by pumping.  She also said that getting to baby to latch will create more milk because of the stimulation!

If you're breastfeeding and pumping then the amount you get won't be a lot and will vary from .5 oz to 3 or more depending on you. But if you're only pumping just keep doing it every 2-3 hours and it will build. Your milk is supply and demand and always make sure after your flow has stopped to keep pumping for 5 more minutes. I started out pumping 24-25 oz a day now I pump on average 33oz which I'm happy with. Try to pump 8-10 times in a 24 hour period. Don't worry about how much you're pumping just try to do it that many times then once you've established a good supply then you can drop it to 6 times. I wouldn't do any less than that.

Also you will probably never get the same amount every time you pump. I pump 8 times a day and it varies from 2oz- 7oz(that's both breasts combined) on average I pump 4oz but it changes.

Thx for sharing! How do you produce more milk? I've just started pumping, & I haven't made as much milk as the 1st time. The next time I'll try, will be the 3rd.
