Like the others said, you usually can't find a heartbeat with a home doppler until the baby gets bigger...even my OB couldn't find one with her doppler equipment until at least 14 weeks, and even then it wasn't audible to me. Early on you really need to hear it via an ultrasound, but it's likely they'll give you one pretty early. Try not to worry, I'm sure you're fine. :)
Your so welcome:) and sehale is absolutely correct, they do a very early scan to give you a due date and everything. I forgot it's called a dating scan;)
Thanks! I am a nurse by the way, just not in obstetrics. I really appreciate everyones comments!
The Doppler devices that you can use at home aren't always reliable, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. It's sometimes even tough for nurses and doctors to find the heartbeat that early using a Doppler. And they should most definitely give you an ultrasound when you go to the doctor. It is very common to do an ultrasound very early, then again at 20 weeks to measure the baby, called an Anatomy Scan. I am almost 28 weeks and I've had 3 ultrasounds so far, however every doctor is different about the amount of ultrasounds you will get. Congratulations on your pregnancy, don't stress yourself out over not being able to find the heartbeat with the home doppler hun, baby is very small right now and like I said it's sometimes even hard for a nurse or doctor to find that early:) hope this helps!
My doctor gave me an.ultrasound at 7 weeks. It's a dating scan to see where you're really at in your pregnancy and give you a due date. Depending on how your uterus is and how your placenta is, you may not be able to find the heartbeat with a Doppler until later.
Congrats on your pregnancy dont worry too much my doctor couldnt find my babys heartbeat for a couple of minutes when i was 12 weeks. I doubt they will give you an ultrasound that early they wouldnt schedule mine until i was 20 weeks but if you are worried you can scesule an appointment at a 3d ultrasound place they so regular ultrasounds as well but you will have to pay but it could help just seeing your little one move around. Good luck!
