Flucuating PSA

Hello, my name is Steve

I was diagnosed July 06, 2010 with stage 2 prostate cancer. My initial PSA'S were 4.0 in March of 2010, 4.3 in April of 2010 and now 2.4 as of August 05, 2010. I have a Gleason score of 6. A radiologist at Fox Chase cancer center in Philadelphia, Pa. said that was a commom acurance.

I have not had any treatment or surgeries for my cancer so far. Can someone give me information on this topic?

when you do go back in ask for a "free psa" test, it has been shown to be more reliable than the regular PSA test, it measures the psa bound to protein or running freely....the lower scores are worse, under 20% is cancer.  It's a blood test.

I'm glad to hear that the same lab did the tests, then it's not the different labs, it's your psa that is going down.  yes!

yes, they want to cut and burn.....disappointing, but record surgeries are being logged, that scares me.

If it drops even more, then celebrate!   1.9 is wonderful, however, .6 is perfect.  0.0 isn't possible unless you had surgery.  A PSA  number does not mean cancer....it means you aren't a girl...

A gleason of 6 means it was caught early on.

I know what you mean they don't want to waste time educating you, maybe because it is so complicated and variable, I wish I knew more....good luck!!!

It seems like I'm learning more on-line about Pca. than I am from the urologist & the oncologist. It seems all the want to do is CUT & BURN.

I had an appt. on Wed., Aug. 18, 2010 I told the urologist I choose watchful waiting sense my PSA dropped 1.9 pts in, he agreed and I;m to have another PSA in 6 months.

What will it mwean if PSA dropped to 0.00. The Doc. never gave me an answer to that question. I would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks

did the same lab do the work?  sometimes labs come up with varying numbers, however yours is so large - doubt it.

cancer is a cell that has lost it's program....in rare instances it regains it's original program....maybe you are under that lucky star.  I sure hope so!

Common for the psa to just go down?  I sure haven't read about it.  I'd sure wait and do another test (free psa or/and pca3 urine) before I did anything.
