Negative Bone scan but Gleason score of 3+4

Hello,
My dad (69 yrs old) was recently diagnosed with Prostate cancer -- stage 4. His PSA levels are in 90s but bone scan came back negative. His biopsy reflected a Gleason score of 3+4=7.  He's always been very healthy and also has no other urinary tract problems commonly associated with prostate cancer. However he has had a severe back pain these past three months - this was also aggravated by a recent fall. He's now on complete bed rest because he's unable to walk. Is this indeed stage 4 of the disease? But his bone scan shows up negative. What are his chances of survival? Please advise. Thanks.

There are a lot of factors in determining if the cancer is in an advanced stage the Gleason score is the way they score prostate cancer a gleason score of  7 at 3+4  is not the worst, but there are other factors. My husband is 52 was recently diagnosed his digital rectal exam never did reveal any tumor, his gleason score on some of his biopsies were a 7 but they were 4+3 which make it worse than 3+4, others were 6 3+3, at any rate he was considered to have intermedite cancer or Stage 2, since he was younger and in good health he had his prostate removed the first part of July and is doing well. I would suggest you check out the website Ustoo.org it is the website for prostate cancer and there is a ton of information on there. Best of luck to you and your dad.

Here's the biopsy report for my earlier post above -- can someone please comment on this?

"Study shows linear fragments of tumor tissue characterized by stromal invasion. The tumor cells show single seperate and closely packed tubular glands and few raggedly outlined and infiltrating fused glandular parts. The tumor cells are round to oval with hyper chromatic nuclei with few show prominent nucleoli at foci. Perinural invasion and lymphocytic aggregates noted.

Diagnosis:

Features are consistent with well differentiated adenocarcinoma.

Gleason's score and grading:

3+4=7/10"

Does this mean that the cancer is at an advanced stage?
