Thankyou.
We are so worried. Will keep in touch
Hi,
The prostatitis may indeed be due to infection. In this case, the PSA should go down and no more worries.
If the PSA fails to go down, in the presence of a normal DRE (and I'm assuming the absence of symptoms), he would most likely be offered a biopsy. I use the word offered because currently, there isn't a clear benefit for this approach, however, some men do prefer to find out if they have prostate cancer and then have more options in terms of fighting the disease. Other men, are more conservative, and consider the biopsy when there is a specific problem (such as difficulty voiding urine). Either way shows no distinct advantage in terms of life expectancy, hence, it becomes a personal choice.
It would be better to discuss it with his doctor himself, as he may have different goals in terms of therapy that may vary from yours.
Stay positive.
