Hi,
Try to maintain an appropriate weight and diet. Discuss about medications to control blood sugar with your doctor. The choice of medications would be dependent on how high the blood sugar is and your overall risk for complications.
Thank you. Have lost considerable weight since bilateral orchiectomy in 2005 and over the last 6 months, 5' 11" under 170, no signifigant girth. No family history of diabetes, significant history of heart disease. Cholesterol levels were well maintained until June 2008, no indication of blood sugar elevation either, until now. BP is good, slightly higher in last year but was well below norms until now.
Hi,
Cholesterol levels maintained until June 2008? You could consider going for a higher dose of Lipitor, another way to go is to consider taking a drug that limits cholesterol absorption such as Ezetimibe. There is a combination drug Simvastatin and ezetimibe that may be better in controlling cholesterol. Discuss these drugs with your doctor.
Best of luck to you. Stay positive.
