swollen prostate

My husband prostate is swollen and now he is scheduled for a biopsy,is this a painful procedure? and what does it mean having a swollen prostate?He is 64 and has no bothering symptoms at all.

Hi,

There would be anesthesia provided so the pain shouldn’t be a concern. After the procedure there may be some bleeding for the first few days which would be natural as the healing may take a little time. The pain should be controlled with pain medications.

Discuss with your doctor the actual procedure. Brochures would also help cover the basics and the more information you have, the less anxious you would be.

Try to find out if an infection is considered. Treatment for this may affect the plan for biopsy, if there may be interval changes afforded by the drugs.
