THREE MONTHS OF BLEEDING

I have been on Alesse 28 for 7 years, and skipped my period purposely about every three months during the last year. Recently, my doctor switched me to Alesse 21, which I was told is no different. Since this switch, I have been bleeding vaginally. Sometimes its red, most times dark brown, and almost always has clotting. At times i'll think it has stopped due to no spotting, but when I check manually there is always blood. It has been constant for three months....and becoming really frustrating in my personal relationships. Should I continue to wait if this is a regular effect of birth control? How will my doctor do a physical if i'm still bleeding during the appointment?

I would go to your doctor. It will probably be just a medication adjustment. Three months is too long to having any type of period.

Yes go to the doctor!  Maybe a month I would expect this due to the change in days/cycle and most likely hormone levels - don't feel ashamed get running over there.  3 months is way long enough.  It should have adjusted by now.  Stop taking it you don't know what it's doing to you and can't explain the bleeding so go off it and see your doc.  Don't feel ashamed they've seen it all.  Explain to him what's going on in great detail and get a pap.

I know it's frustrating on the relationship part but the men or man will just have to understand.  The sooner you get to a doc the sooner this can be resolved.

I don't know if anyone would disagree, but STOP taking that pill and see your doctor. And don't feel inappropriate getting a physical while you are bleeding - if you could help it, you would! Take some time taking to sexual health professionals, get some info, do some research, and figure out what's not working for you. Don't rely on your doctor solely to take all these things into consideration.
