Asthma is an inflamatory disease. That means that the airways become inflamed and swollen and produce excess mucus which makes it difficult to breathe. Many people have mild asthma and don't really need to "control" their asthma. They can use a rescue inhaler ocassionally or have issues with it during a certain pollen season or when they get sick, but other than that it doesn't affect their life very much. Then there are people who take high doses of inhaled steroids (anti-inflamatory medicine) with long acting broncho-dolaters along with a host of allergy medicines and nasal sprays to try to have even the slightest bit of control and a normal life. Then there is a broad spectrum of people in between. Some people have issues regularly, but can control them with a minimum of allergy meds. Then some will add inhaled steroids. It can be a complicated disease to treat.
Lung cancer is well, it is cancer. Cancers are cells that grow abnormally and destroy healthy cells around them. If they are removed or irradicated with chemotherapy or radiation they slowly destroy the lungs. Some types of cancers grow faster than others. Those are called agressive cancers. They are difficult to treat and must be found and treated quickly.
