shortness of breath

I AM 26 YEARS OLD AND FOR THE PAST 2 MONTHS I HAVE BEEN WAKING UP AT NIGHT WHILE I AM SLEEPING GASPING FOR AIR. I CAN NOT SLEEP THE WHOLE NIGHT IT HAPPENS TO ME ABOUT 6 TO 7 TIMES A NIGHT THEN I JUST SIT UP AND WAIT FOR IT TO PASS. ALSO I FEEL LIKE I AM CHOKING AND LIGHTHEADED. I WENT TO THE ER WHEN THIS FIRST STARTED AND THEY SAID I HAD AN ANIXTY ATTACK I HAVE NOTHING TO BE ANXIOUS OVER AND I NEVER HAD DEPRESSION, HOW CAN I HAVE AN ATTACK WHILE I AM IN DEEP SLEEP. I HAD AN EKG  AND CHEST X-RAY EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. I WAS ALSO TAKING YASMINE BIRTH CONTROL AND NOTICED THAT IT GOT WORSE AFTER I TOOK IT O FELT LIKE I WAS HAVING A HEART ATTACK. I TOOK MYSELF OFF OF IT ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO I FEEL A LITTLE BETTER BUT I AM STILL STUGGLING TO BREATH ESPECILLY AT NIGHT . I NEED SOMEONE TO HELP ME I AM NOT GETTING ANY SLEEP AND I FEEL LIKE I AM GONNA DIE EVERY NIGHT. PLEASE

It could be acid reflux backing up into your lungs while you are a sleep causing you to feel like you are unable to breath and also making you feel like you are having a heart attack........even if you don't have other symptoms of it, it could be silent reflux..........you may want to get checked for it..........:-) I am learning that it causes quite a bit of things for people.

Well, it could be sleep apnea. Or anxiety or the birth control.  Sleep apnea is when your passages close up or something like that, and you wake up not breathing basicly.  Have you been checked for that?
