Sudden onset lung/other issues after taking Sulfatrim?

After being on amoxicillin (post extraction) and then sulfatrim (sinus affection after communication) I developed physical trouble breathing (swollen nasal/throat passages), plus air hunger and chest pain.  Had a chest x-ray, tests for PE (negative), ecg, loop monitor for 9 days.

Chest x-ray showed prominence of bronchovascular  markings consistent with airway inflammatory disease and COPD in appropriate clinical setting.  I've never smoked and have always been careful with masks etc.  It also showed an ectatic aorta.  Everything else normal.  Last chest x-ray I had only showed a small area of pneumonia (2009?) -- everything else normal.

During the worst of the reaction, my heart rate was bottoming out and I had to stop taking a beta blocker I've been on for 18 years.  I also had heart rate issues (at rest, 115; while trying to do chores it would drop to 60 and I couldn't breathe/lift anything).  I also had trouble eating and swallowing (because of the swelling I presume).  Since then I've also been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea.  This is fairly new since the drug -- I wake up many times a night needing to take deep breaths -- my oxygen sat was hitting 83% while I slept.  This is often weight related, I'm told ... BUT I'm down 40 pounds since January (yes, I worked hard for it) and am only 15ish pounds over where I should be at this point.

THe worst of the initial reaction is gone however I still get the periods of "air hunger" and some mild chest pain.  My throat also feels saggy at the back on the right.  PCP just noted a cyst on my tonsil as well.  Could all these things have been a reaction to the sulfatrim DS?  Will it likely return to normal at some point in time?  Is the cyst of any importance or just some random "other"?

Thanks to anyone who can offer ideas ... :).

It has been discussed with my doctor.  I've been waiting for a referral.  However I ended up in the ER via an ambulance Thursday night -- turns out the "air hunger" is associated with extremely high blood pressure.  (which has been noted at the doctor's office, but no one has put 2 and 2 together).  These episodes have been getting longer and longer (ER episode still going strong Friday night?  It is the weekend -- (no med care avalailable) -- I've gone back on my bp meds, this time unconcerned about whether or not it causes bottoming out of my heart rate since bp/hr have been running 170+/105+ and 95+.  My next question though .. If it IS pulmonary hypertension (suggested as a possibility by ER doc), would the CPAP be making it worse and should I refrain until I can talk to a doctor?

Hi, persisting symptoms of air hunger at night could indicate that the CPAP values may need re adjustment. I assume you're on CPAP. Allergic reactions can cause breathlessness but its unlikely to last this long. Also, any upper airway swelling or cysts can compromise the airway diameter and worsen symptoms of obstructive sleep apnea. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Regards.

That would be sinus INFECTION, not affection.  Wish there was an edit option lol.
