Hi> My mom and my Grandpa both had emphysema, both died from other things and I don't know much about that but I know that my Mom didn't cough up blood from emphysema. She was on oxygen while waiting for a liver transplant which went well but died 9 months later from liver cancer and i believe lung cancer as well but if I was you I would apply for medicaid/medicare FOR him and try to get him to go to doc because i just found out i have a mass on my left lung and I've been looking up on masses and coughing up blood is one of the symptoms. A county hospital will take your dad regardless of ins. but if he wont go, see if he can get some kinda county ins. or state and see if he will at least get to a doctor. If he goes to hospital, take bill to local dhs office when applying for med.
I wish you the best of luck and I will pray for you both.

I recently saw a situation where the person thought she had asthma and people were treating her for asthma.  She got wheezing and shortness of breath.

But she really had cardiac asthma, which isn't really asthma at all.  It is when the left ventricle of the heart is not working right, otherwise known as congestive heart failure.

Cardiac asthma is treated ENTIRELY DIFFERENT than asthma.  In fact standard asthma treatments will not work.

For cardiac asthma you need a diuretic and things to help the heart.

Possibly she could ask her doctor if she has been worked up for *cardiac asthma.*  Also she could look it up on the internet and see if the picture fits her.
