phlegm, can't breathe

i've been sick for about a month i went to the doctor and he prescribed lepitor, and a cough syrum.
it started as a cough then i began coughing pieces of phlegm, after a while i couldn't stop coughing and i would continue to vomit, though all i vomited was phlegm, and saliva.  i couldn't speak for a while after that.  if i laugh suddenly and take an unexpected breathe it feel like the phlegm covers up my air pipe and i can't breathe.  i try to stay away from the cold air and not eat at night.  currently i don't vomit to much in the day however i always wake up with the build up of phlegm and start vomiting and not being able to breathe.  i want to go back to my doctor but i'm afraid he wont give me the medication i need.. is there someone who can help me explain exactly what i have.   i tried using over the counter medicine and nothing works like mucinex and other cough medicines. someone suggested z pak ..please respond..thank you for reading

First thing first, you should find out from the doctor what it is, exactly you are dealing with. Alot of times doctors only treat symptoms and do not dig deep enough for the real culprit.  Yet, in the meantime I would sleep slightly raised and drink plenty of water, broths and warm glasses of lemon tea from fresh lemons; use honey to sweeten.. Get back to us.

Hi my dad had the same thing but his circumstances are much worse as he has copd, i used to suffer with post nasal drip which makes me feel like i cant cough up any phlem, but im sure its not that, sometimes sputum can be thick and cover your windpipe due to bacteria, all i can say is do not give up with your doctor as my dad had the same and it did cut off his airway and he was in hospital for a week, im not saying that will happen to you, just keep bugging your doc, thats what there there for!! good luck
