predisone substitute

i suffer with asthma, sinusitis and sarcoisosis and have taken predisone for years. It would be nice not to have to take this medication as it cause swelling and weight gain. i want to cut back on eating but having to take this med every day will not help me, please suggest s solution.

Hi, You should really discus this with the doctor treating your sarcoidosis.  My understading of the disease is that is it an auto-immune disease with an overactive immune system.  Therefore, you would most likely on the prednesone to suppress your immuse system.  I could be wrong.  If this is the case, I doubt you have options, but your doctor would know your situation best.

Prednisone not only causes swelling, it causes atrophy of the adrenal glands, and withdrawel should be under the sipervision of a physician.

You might ask your physician to try formoterol fumarate inhalation powder, together with a low-dose inhaled steroid.
