Can't catch a full breath of air?

I'm an 18 year old male that's been having a problem that started a few months ago. For the past few months, I've felt as if I can't catch a full breath of air when I breath in. Sometimes, I feel as if it depends on the position that I'm in. There are cases when my breathing seems to be normal, but whenever I think of the problem I become evident of the fact that it persists. It has also been accompanied by chest pain above the breast area that seems to occur when I squeeze the upper part of my body. Since I have no other symptoms and am someone who exercises often, I've been adamant that this is something that will go away. Unfortunately it hasn't and it is very unsettling to me. Has anyone experienced similar symptons? What could the problem be?
